••SARAHS POV••
The gentle morning light filtered through my curtains, casting a warm glow across my room. With a sense of anticipation, I picked up my phone and dialed Fulton's number, his voice a source of comfort and familiarity. "Hey, baby, just letting you know I'm heading out with my friends today," I said, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I imagined his reaction.
"Sweetheart, please be careful out there," Fulton's voice, filled with love and concern, resonated in my ears, his endearing nicknames wrapping me in a cocoon of affection. "I love you," he added, his words a soothing balm in the midst of my preparations for the day ahead. "Love you too, babe," I whispered softly, the affection for him swelling in my heart.
As I adorned myself with the meaningful necklaces from my parents and the special hockey stick necklace Fulton had given me, memories of our shared moments flooded my mind, each trinket a testament to our bond. Dressed in comfortable denim shorts, Fulton's cherished band tee, and my well-worn converses, I tied his bandanna around my wrist, the familiar scent of my perfume enveloping me in a cloud of nostalgia.
Each detail was a reminder of his presence, even when physically apart. Stepping out of the house, a mix of excitement and joy bubbled within me as I made my way to meet my friends. In the car, amidst the lively chatter and laughter, I could almost hear Fulton's voice beside me, his playful teasing and unwavering support a constant echo in my mind.
"Hey there, sweetheart, ready for a day of fun?" I imagined him saying, his voice filled with affection and a hint of mischief. Despite knowing he was at hockey practice, his spirit felt so real, guiding me with love and reassurance even from a distance. As the car journey unfolded, his voice continued to dance in my thoughts, each word a reminder of his unwavering presence in my life.
Suddenly, a moment of distraction led to a heart-stopping crash, plunging us into darkness as memories of Fulton flooded my mind with vivid clarity. In that fleeting moment of blacking out, I clung to the echoes of his endearing nicknames, his protective embrace, and the deep love that bound us together. As consciousness slipped away, Fulton's voice remained a steady beacon, guiding me through the darkness.
As I lay there, surrounded by a shroud of darkness, the sounds of commotion and muffled voices swirled around me. I tried to move, to open my eyes, but found myself trapped in a world of silence and stillness. Amongst the chaos, my mother's sorrowful sobs pierced through the veil of numbness, a heartbreaking melody that resonated in the empty void.
"I can't hear Dad," I thought, a pang of emptiness gripping my heart. The absence of Fulton's voice, usually a constant presence in my life, left a void that I couldn't bear. Despite his tough exterior and protective nature, his teasing banter always brought a smile to my face, his love shining through every playful jab.
The realization dawned on me like a soft whisper in the wind - the car crash had taken me away. The finality of it all settled in, a bittersweet realization that I was no longer a part of the world I knew. As the silence enveloped me, seeping into every crevice of my being, I felt a sense of peace wash over me, a gentle acceptance of what was to come.
In the midst of the quiet, memories of Fulton flooded my mind, his tough yet tender presence a beacon of light in the darkness. I could almost hear his playful teasing, his voice laced with affection and a hint of mischief. "Come on, Webber, you can't fool me with that innocent act," he would say, a playful glint in his eyes as he poked fun at my quirks.
Despite his tough exterior, Fulton's love for me shone through in every interaction, his protective nature a shield that enveloped me in a cocoon of safety. "You know I've always got your back, Sarah," he would reassure me, his voice a soothing melody that echoed in my mind.
As the realization of my fate settled in, I felt a sense of gratitude for having known such love in my life. The memories of Fulton, his teasing, his protectiveness, and above all, his unwavering love, wrapped around me like a warm embrace in my final moments.
In the stillness of that moment, I whispered my final farewell, knowing that though I may be gone, the love I shared with Fulton would live on in the echoes of our memories.
