Unexpected Romance (D. Portman)

As I walked into the pizza place with Dean, I couldn't help but feel my heart fluttering in my chest. Something was different tonight. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there was a tension in the air that I couldn't ignore.

We ordered our usual pepperoni pizza and sat down at our usual table. We chatted and laughed like we always did, but there was an undercurrent of something else. I caught Dean looking at me more often than usual, and every time our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat.

As we ate our pizza, Dean leaned in close to me and said, "You know, you're pretty awesome."

I blushed and smiled, feeling warmth spread through my body. "Thanks, Dean. You're pretty awesome too."

Dean chuckled and reached across the table to take my hand. "No, I mean it. You're really special. You're smart, funny, and beautiful."

I felt my cheeks heat up even more and looked down at our intertwined hands. "Thanks, Dean. You're making me blush."

Dean's hand squeezed mine and I looked up at him. "I know we're good friends, but I can't help feeling like there's something more between us."

I felt my heart racing as I looked into Dean's eyes. "What do you mean?"

Dean took a deep breath before leaning in and kissing me softly on the lips. I felt a jolt of electricity shoot through my body as he pulled away and looked into my eyes. "I like you, more than just a friend. And I know it's probably not what you want, but I had to tell you."

I smiled softly and reached up to cup his cheek. "Dean, I like you too. I was just scared of ruining our friendship."

Dean's face lit up and he pulled me into a tight hug. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out. I don't want to lose you either."

From that moment on, Dean and I were more than just friends. We went on dates, held hands, and shared sweet kisses. We still played hockey together and hung out like we always did, but now we had something more.

Every time Dean looked at me with that adoring gaze, I knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be. And as we walked back to our dorms that night, hand in hand, I couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.
