You sit in your room, staring blankly at the wall. The memories of you and Adam flood your mind, making your heart ache. You've been dating for six years, but it feels like an eternity. You remember how you met when you were kids, how he would always protect you from bullies, and how he would make you laugh when you were upset.

But now, everything has changed. Adam's hockey career has taken over his life, leaving no time for anything else. You've tried to be understanding, but it's hard when you feel like you're not a priority in his life. You decide to talk to him about it.

"Adam, can we talk?" You ask, trying to keep your voice steady.

"Sure, what's up?" He replies, looking up from his hockey stick.

"I feel like we're drifting apart. Your hockey takes up all of your time, and I feel like I'm not important to you anymore." You say, trying to keep the tears from falling.

"I'm sorry, but hockey is my dream. I can't just give it up," Adam responds, looking down at his feet.

"I'm not asking you to give it up, but can't we find a balance? I miss spending time with you," You say, your voice cracking.

"I don't know if I can do that. Hockey is my life," Adam says, looking back up at you.

The tears finally spill over, and you can't stop them. "So, that's it? I'm just supposed to accept that hockey is more important than me?"

"I didn't say that," Adam replies, looking at you with a pained expression.

"But it's what you're saying. I can't compete with your love for hockey. You have to choose, me or hockey. You can take it or leave it," You say, your voice full of sadness and hurt.

"I can't choose. I love you both," Adam replies, looking just as heartbroken as you feel.

You take a deep breath, trying to gather your thoughts. "I'm sorry, Adam. I hope we can still be friends, but we're done. I can't do this anymore," You say, standing up to leave.

"Please, don't go," Adam says, standing up as well.

"I have to. I need to think, and I can't do that around you right now," You say, walking towards the door.

Adam doesn't say anything else as you leave, and you spend the rest of the week at home, not seeing any of your friends or going to cheer practice. You need time to heal, time to come to terms with the fact that the person you thought you would spend the rest of your life with is no longer a part of your future.
