"The Sekai Taikai is coming. It's up to us to pick our seven most badass fighters." Sensei Lawrence spoke, walking between the students as they all stared forward. Syd found herself between Tory and Eli, trying to ignore the new addition the boy had added to his mohawk to make it into a spin-off of the American flag.

"And there are no easy decisions. We know you all want to go to Barcelona." Mr. LaRusso continued. "Some of you think you're shoo-ins, that you're at the top of your game, that nothing or no one can stop you." Sensei Lawrence added. "And some of you think you're the underdogs, and you don't know if you have what it takes, and that you feel left out and left behind." Mr. LaRusso spoke.

"But it's a level playing field. Anything can happen." Sensei Lawrence promised. "Each and every one of you has a shot. So, as we make our evaluations, do your best." Mr. LaRusso advised. "Now is not the time to puss out." Sensei Lawrence added. "Even though we're competing against each other, we are still one dojo. And it's time to bring out the best in all of us." Mr. LaRusso stated.

"So, which of you has what it takes to be in our top seven?" Sensei Lawrence questioned, leaving it up in the air.

It was time to show what they were made of.

"Okay, so y'all think there's any chance we don't make it in the top seven?" Miguel wondered, smiling to Sam, Syd, Tory, and Robby. Sam and Syd had decided to carpool, now finding themselves with the others. "Maybe when hell freezes over." Tory laughed.

"Let's hope there's not a tournament category for humility." Sam joked. "Oh, come on. We got two All Valley champs, two runner-ups, and another who could've easily won it all both years. It's gotta be us." Robby smiled. "I'll see you guys later." Syd laughed, stopping as the group walked past Demetri and Eli, connecting her hand with Eli's.

"I mean, you're a no-brainer. Oh, and now that she's here I can say that Syd obviously is too. It's really only that seventh spot that's up for grabs." Demetri spoke. "Yeah, and it's yours for the taking." Eli smiled. Syd just walked with the two, smiling at the conversation. She could at least be happy to know all of her friends assumed she'd get in, that was a pretty cool thing.

"I appreciate the support, but I ran a statistical analysis. And while there is an 18% chance you're right, the smart money is on Kenny. I mean, he did beat you in that head-to-head. Uh, cheap shot notwithstanding." Demetri spoke. "Come on, Metri. Don't count yourself out so quick." Syd replied.

"Ah! Here's the thing, you can't count yourself out if you never counted yourself in." Demetri responded. "Okay, Payne's got power. But so do you. Syds right, don't count yourself out, man." Eli hyped. "Hmm. I prefer to focus on something actually achievable. Like getting into MIT. Early Action decisions come out any day now, you know." Demetri smiled.
