I eventually decided the regret of attending Clay's funeral would be easier to live with than the regret of not attending. Face left early that morning to cover some stuff with the club before we headed to the hospital to wait for the kids to be discharged. He knew I was up in the air on it.

I'd gotten ready, and was sitting at my table, still going back and forth. That's when Wayne knocked on my door and offered to take me with him. We were the only ones there. I was asked if I wanted to say a few words. I declined. What could I say?

Any words I had for Clay? They were mine. I didn't need to share them with the officiant, the prisoners filling in his grave or Unser.

This was closure of a chapter of my life that ended in just another heartbreak. I preferred to think of the times when he was my dad. That's why I was there, for my dad, not the monster he became, or maybe always was.

I headed back to TM after. I figured I'd get Face to pick me up on his way through and we could change when we got the SUV from home to go for the kids.

No sooner did I walk in the door and mom looked up. She examined what I was wearing and knew where I came from. "Phone call for you" she held the receiver in her hand. "Friend of Nero's."

I furrowed my brow; not sure I knew why Nero's friends would want to talk to me. "Hello" I asked?

Hello, is this Mrs. Harley Reid

"Speaking."

Mrs. Reid

"Harley, please."

Harley, yes. I've not yet had the pleasure of meeting you, but I have met other members of your kind family, including your husband, Conner.

"I suspect this is Venus" I replied.

It is indeed my dear, I hope I'm not being too forward in calling you.

"Not at all" I shook my head. "I feel like I'm talking to a legend."

And the wonderful things Conner has said of you, I feel the same.

"Yeah I got him fooled" I scoffed.

"And charming like your brother" she told me. Being his sister I felt compelled to argue. But being his sister, I'd also seen more than one woman melt for my brother's smile. Gross.

Actually I was looking to ask how I should proceed with my findings.

"What have you found" I asked?

You see in my discussions with your husband he told me about a younger sibling with a similar persuasion.

"Michael."

I may have found her.

I was taken aback; all I could do was act like a fucking parrot. "You found her?"

She's Michelle these days and her chosen last name is Conners.

Ever the linguist, all I could manage was, "Oh my god."

I was wondering how I should proceed. I wanted to reach out to her and give her a contact number she might reach you at if she's so inclined.

"Yes, that's perfect. Let me give you that." I rushed out my contact info, shaking.

Now Harley, I must warn you why I reached out to you and not your husband. Sometimes people like Michelle and I don't want ties to our old lives. I didn't want to get Conner's hopes up only to dash them.
