The wedding was only one week away. Things were getting busier and more lively around the estate as Auntie Feifei and everyone decorated the estate in bright red.
"The lanterns are beautiful." Minda said as he struggled to take another step forward.
With the doctor's approval Minda had started to use a cane to move around. He could only manage to walk across the flat wooden floors of the house but everyday it got easier. Kai naturally was by his side for every step Minda took with his arms ready and open to catch him.
"You're servants have done a great job preparing for the wedding." Kai agreed. Because it was only the three of them Auntie Feifei and the others started decorating the estate early.
Minda helped by painting scrolls with the double happiness symbol, ducks, and other lucky marriage symbols. Everything except the most popular dragon and phoenix. Minda and Kai both agreed that the dragon wasn't a joyous symbol for the two of them and didn't want to use it.
"They are amazing. Best of all is that our wedding outfits will finally be done tomorrow." Minda said as he took another step forward.
The wedding outfits were taking longer than expected to get done. The had gone for a fitting two weeks earlier but the embroidery wasn't complete. Thankfully, they had time before the wedding for the tailor to finish the outfits.
"It's good that they will be complete in time. If not we might have to wear incomplete outfits for the wedding next week." Kai said.
When the tailor said they needed another two weeks to complete the outfits Kai wasn't pleased. He could understand needing a few extra days due to unforeseen circumstances but two weeks was a ridiculous amount of time.
At the time, Kai was intent on learning the reason but Auntie Feifei quickly forgave the tailor. Kai later questioned her about it and she explained it was caused by the illness of the embroiderer. He still had his doubts and questioned why another person wasn't told to complete the task. Auntie Feifei again excused it by saying they wanted to wait for the best and not allow anyone else to work on Minda's wedding clothes. Her answers left many doubts but no matter how much he questioned Feifei he never seemed to get a satisfactory answer and could only give up.
...
"Kai, what do you think about going to town on horseback?" Minda suddenly asked as they continued their walk.
"We could but the ride might be a little rough. You also won't be able to bring along your wheelchair." Kai said.
"I know but I think the ride into town would be nice. I can also bring my cane and you can carry me if It becomes difficult for me to walk." Minda said.
Kai looked at Minda who was trembling after walking for less than two minutes. When he considered the possibility of Minda's hips and thighs feeling sore from the ride into town he doubted Minda would have the strength to take even one step.
"Okay." Kai said despite his thoughts. He was happy to agree when he thought about needing to carry Minda around in his arms. A task Minda had become less and less likely to agree to since trying to walk again.
"Great." Minda exclaimed his breath becoming more haggard and strained.
"I think that's enough." Kai said but Minda didn't want to stop. He was determined to walk to the end of the room where his wheelchair was waiting for him.
"Just five more steps. I can do it." Minda said as he took another step forward with his cane. Kai stood behind him with his arms only inches away to catches him. Minda didn't mind his overprotective stance and focused on his next step.
