The next morning Minda went to work preparing breakfast while Kai walked over to General Lei to start his morning training.
"I changed your shift so you could tell him the truth." General Lei stated with an obviously displeased look on his face.
It was clear to him that Kai hadn't told Minda that he was the target of the attacks. If he had Minda would have been in a more solemn mood not happily smiling as he helped prepare breakfast for everyone.
"It's not the right time." Kai said but General Lei didn't agree. He clenched his fist ready to smack Kai at the back of the head.
"Idiot! It's never the right time for these types of difficult conversations. Stop being a coward and tell him." General Lei said. He swung his fist but Kai ducked out of the way in time.
After stepping out of General Lei's reach Kai looked over at Minda who was smiling happily as he made buns for breakfast. He knew he needed to tell Minda the truth but he quickly lost his nerve when he thought about how Minda's smile would disappear once he did.
"I'll tell him. I will but I need a plan first."
"What plan? We've talked it over and there's only two choices. Stay and fight or leave the country and don't come back until I deal with the threat for you." General Lei summed up for Kai.
"I know."
"If you know then quit stalling and tell him the truth." General once again stated.
"I will." Kai said. He then grabbed some heavy crates and started packing them into the carts.
General Lei stared at him with narrow eyes obviously doubting Kai's claims. Even so, he couldn't keep saying the same thing over and over again.
"You better." He muttered before leaving Kai to pack up the campsite.
...
They travelled down the road through the forest. Kai once again spent the morning running alongside the carriage with Minda watching him from the carriage window. While General Lei drove the carriage up front.
Noon came and went and Minda poked his head out from inside the carriage with an angry look on his face. General Kei noticed and wasn't surprised to see him.
"General, why haven't we stopped yet?" Minda asked.
"We haven't reached our destination yet." General Lei answered.
"It's already past noon. Kai can't keep running at this pace for much longer. We need to stop so he can take a break." Minda demanded.
"He's fine. Besides it won't be much longer." General Lei said.
"Demon." Minda muttered under his breath before slipping back inside the carriage. General Lei could only nervously laugh in response while he continued to drive the carriage forward.
...
General Lei wasn't lying. Within ten minutes they drove out of the thick forest and could see the town not far away.
"Hey, little soulmate. Come take a look. We've reached the next town." General Lei said.
Minda popped his head out again to take a look. The sight of the town did make Minda smile but only for a second.
"Why aren't you happy?" General Lei asked.
"It's hard to get excited about visiting a new town when you're just going to make Kai train the entire time." Minda said.
"Did the brat not tell you?"
"Tell me what?" Minda curiously asked.
"As a reward for all the hard work he's been doing I gave Kai the rest of today and tomorrow off. You and him can go enjoy yourselves." General Lei joyfully told Minda. He hoped telling Minda they would be spending the next couple days in town would appease him.
