"Kai, tell your Little soulmate to stop glaring at me." General Lei demanded.
"Impossible."
"It's not impossible. You're his spouse. You must know how to coax him into a better mood." General Lei said. He normally didn't care about the stares and discontent of others but Minda had been glaring and grimacing for days. He tried coaxing Minda himself with fruit and praise but there was no change.
"Like I said, it's impossible. MinMin loves me too much and in his mind you've become the villain in our story." Kai explained with a cocky grin. It was clear he was actually enjoying the situation.
"Who's a villain? If this were a book, I would be the wise mentor who trains and teaches you how to be a man and succeed." General Lei complained.
"If this was an adventure book maybe, but to MinMin this is a love story and you're the bastard who is keeping us apart." Kai explained as he finished the last of the one handed push ups General Lei had ordered him to do.
Since they started Kai's training General Lei had been constantly around. If he wasn't around Kai was off doing whatever ridiculous task General Lei had ordered him to do. Which meant Minda was often if not always left alone to brood.
"Love story... Tch! If he wanted a love story he shouldn't have chosen to leave that comfy little estate of his to travel." General Lei rebuked.
"Minda might have been safe at the estate for a few years but those bastards in the Capital wouldn't have continued to ignore him for long. They would have discovered Minda was treated differently at some point and attacked him for it. At least with the way things played out we have a chance to get ahead of things." Kai said.
They had learned a few days earlier that the attack was meant for Minda. Apparently, some nobles had begun to question Minda's relationship with the General and had started to investigate him. From what the General's sources discovered the truth regarding Minda's birth was still a well kept secret but a particularly nasty group of corrupt nobles had decided it would be easier to kill Minda than investigate further.
Kai hadn't told Minda yet, but he and General Lei were often discussing their options. They involved everything from escaping the country to taking a stand and fighting back. Whatever the case, they had until they reached the border to decide.
"Have you talked to him yet?" General Lei asked. He knew Kai had been putting off telling Minda the truth.
"Not until I figure out what to do."
Smack*
"Idiot! Stop keeping this a secret and tell him already."
"No, if I tell him now it will only scare him unnecessarily."
Smack*
"Stop hitting me!" Kai growled his head pounding after being hit twice.
"Not until you smarten up. This isn't a decision you can make on your own. You're married and need to figure it out together with him." General Lei rebuked. Kai knew the General was right but he still couldn't bring himself to tell Minda the truth. Not when he knew the truth was that there were people trying to kill him.
General Lei couldn't bother trying to convince the stubborn Kai and walked off grumbling and cursing under his breath. The moment he was gone Minda rolled up looking unhappy.
"Does he have to hit you on top of everything else he's forcing you to do?" Minda grumbled. He had been watching them while helping Gen with breakfast when he saw what happened.
"He isn't forcing me to do anything." Kai said with a smile. Knowing Minda was angry for his sake not only warmed his heart but motivated him to work harder.
