"Are you hungry?" Minda asked Kai who had spent the entire morning and most of the afternoon by his side.

"Are you feeling well enough to eat? I think Feifei left some food in the kitchen. I can warm it up." Kai offered.

"I'm not, but you must be hungry." Minda said. After drinking some medicinal tea and lots of water his headache had subsided and he was well enough to care about Kai's situation.

"A little." Kai admitted. He then moved to leave but Minda grabbed his shoulders.

"Are you leaving?" Minda asked.

"I was going to get the food." Kai said.

"I want to come with you." Minda said. He looked around for his wheelchair thinking he would use it but Kai thought differently. He picked Minda up and carried him out of the room. Unlike the first time they were both wearing a thin red night robes so Minda had no complaints.

Once in the kitchen Minda saw the premade rice porridge, some buns, and a pot of black chicken soup. All were very nutritious and carefully prepared with Minda in mind.

Kai carefully placed Minda on a chair. The moment he was lowered Minda was painfully reminded of what they had done the night before.

"I wonder how long that place will be sore?" Minda thought as he adjusted his position on the hard wooden chair. While he tried to find a comfortable position Kai lit the stove and had started to heat up the food.

"MinMin, do you think you can stomach a little soup or rice porridge?" Kai asked.

"Maybe, I don't know but I'll try."

Kai was glad to hear he would at least try. Wanting to give Minda even more reason to eat he tried his best not to burn anything.

"Honey, do you think I'll be okay in time to leave?" Minda asked unable to get comfortable.

"If not we can postpone things."

"Don't they have to return to the border quickly. We can't ask General Lei and everyone to wait." Minda said. Kai walked over to Minda and placed his hands on Minda's tender hips. His hands carefully massaging them as he spoke.

"Don't worry about them. We might be traveling together but your health, needs, and comfort are a priority. If they can't wait then we'll go our separate ways."

Minda was happy Kai was thinking of him but inside he knew Kai would have fun traveling with everyone. He hadn't forgotten the conversation Kai and General Lei had about someone named Captain Mao and wanting to see him at the border. Remembering that, Minda was determined to get him there.

Sizzle*

Caught up in the moment Kai forgot about the food and the kitchen quickly filled with the smell of burnt porridge.

"F*ck!" Kai immediately stood up and was shocked by the results. The porridge had turned to a blackened mess, the soup lost almost all the liquid and the chicken and vegetable inside were burnt, even the buns had strangely become soggy. Curious Minda found the strength to stand up and peeked past Kai to see the result of his cooking.

"That's bad."

"Do you think any of it is salvageable?" Kai asked as he scrapped the bottom of the pot.

"No." Minda stated with absolute certainty. Kai glanced around the kitchen and noticed several ingredients. If he tried it wouldn't be impossible to make something.

"Do you still want porridge, or do you want something more substantial?" Minda asked apparently thinking along the same lines as Kai.

"I'm fine eating anything." Kai said thinking porridge would be the easiest thing for him to cook.
