At night, Kai tucked Minda into bed. Knowing he wouldn't be sleeping with him Kai put both of the leopards on the bed together with him.
"Have you changed your mind about them sleeping in the bed?" Minda asked.
"Since I won't be here there's no reason they shouldn't." Kai said. Minda Couldn't help but grimace. He had hoped that maybe Kai would have changed his mind about sleeping apart.
"Do you really need to sleep in the other room?" Minda quietly asked as he tugged on Kai's nightrobe.
"Those wanton eyes and moist lips are precisely why I can't stay." Kai said as he tapped Minda's pouty lips. Like a button had been pressed Minda turned crimson.
"I... I'm not wanton. I just don't want to have a nightmare."
"Am I nothing but a talisman for warding off nightmares to you?" Kai teased.
"... If I say yes will you stay?" Minda quietly asked. Kai couldn't help but burst into laughter at his cute question.
"I can't. But if you do have nightmares call out and I will come back."
"And stay?"
Kai lightly kissed the top of Minda's head without answering him. He then blew out the lamp and left the room. Minda flopped down in bed feeling frustrated. He understood why Kai was sleeping apart but only a couple days ago they were fighting about sleeping together because of the leopards. Now, he was willingly walking away.
"This is stupid." Minda grumbled as he pulled Xianli close to cuddle.
...
The night was long. Minda tried to sleep but every time he closed his eyes he was plagued by nightmare's of the past.
"It wasn't this bad last time Kai slept in the other room." Minda thought as he stared up at the ceiling.
...
After laying there unable to sleep for a long time Minda decided he didn't care what Kai wanted. He sat up and tried to grab his wheelchair. Because it was dark Minda struggled to find it.
"There... damn!"
When he finally found his wheelchair in the pitch black room he accidentally pushed it away. Feeling frustrated and determined to go get Kai he decided to chase after his wheelchair. A decision he wouldn't have made if he wasn't so tired and upset.
He grabbed the bedpost and used it to pull himself up. Then on one foot he hopped forward into the darkness.
Bang!
Apparently the wheelchair hadn't rolled that far away. With one hop he hit it and nearly fell to the floor. Holding back a cry from the pain Minda grabbed his wheelchair and sat down.
"Sniff... this is all Kai's fault." Minda grumbled as he rolled his way towards what he thought was the door.
...
"Did one of the leopards fall out of bed?" Kai wondered when he heard the loud bang from the other side of the wall. He debated going over to check but refrained from doing so.
"If I go over there I won't be able to stop myself from slipping into bed with him."
Determined not to go over Kai crossed his arms and closed his eyes. He decided to distract himself and think of where he would take Minda for their horse ride in the morning.
"It will be Minda's first time riding a horse. It's probably best if we keep it short. A few laps around the farm should be enough. Any more and his hips will be sore." Kai mused.
