After visiting the bookstore and buying a journal that cost more than the clothes they were wearing. Minda and Kai returned to the estate.
"What's going on?" Minda asked Kai.
As they approached the estate Minda and Kai noticed a large group of horses and carts. The Chen family owned the entire mountain meaning any visitors at the estate were for him. Kai had also noticed the group and more.
"That flag belongs to General Lei." Kai said. Minda immediately turned to look at Kai. He knew how important General Lei was too him.
"Are you okay?"
"General Lei was my foster father and the man I respected the most. To see him again would be an honour but that's all it can be. I'm not the man he knew." Kai said in a soft voice.
Minda could tell Kai was feeling more emotional than usual because Kai's arm tightened around his waist as he spoke.
"The General might not recognize you but I'm sure if you mention some personal stories and tell him what happened he'd know it was you. Then the two of you can reconnect." Minda said.
"That's wonderful advice but I think it's best if I don't." Kai said.
"Why not? I didn't talk to him for long but it was obvious to me that he cares about you." Minda said recalling the brief moment they talked in the dungeon.
"The two of you spoke?"
"We did. When his army took control of the dungeon he personally came to my cell. I wasn't in the best place and didn't have the energy to leave but we talked about you and he reminded me that you would want me to live." Minda revealed. Kai was surprised. He didn't realize Minda and the General met or that they had the kind of conversation he was hinting at.
"I didn't know. I owe him an even greater debt of gratitude than I thought." Kai said as he hugged Minda tight and softly kissed his exposed neck.
"If you tell him who you are you can thank him and say all the things you never had the chance to say in the past." Minda suggested thinking it would be a shame not to tell General Lei what he felt.
"It's a nice thought but I think it would be best not to say anything. The General's foster son and right hand man is gone. It's best to keep it that way." Kai said.
"If that's what you want."
Minda still thought he should tell General Lei the truth but he wouldn't force the issue. He understood that Kai taking over another man's body was an incredible miracle but also an unbelievable one.
...
"Uncle Ran, do you know what is happening?" Minda asked when they rode up next to him.
"Young Master, welcome back. General Lei and his closest aides arrived an hour ago. They've come to celebrate your wedding to Sir Kai." Uncle Ran explained.
"The wedding is a week away. Why are they here so early?" Minda asked thinking it was odd.
"I couldn't say." Uncle Ran admitted. Minda looked towards the mountain feeling a little strange about having several guests staying at the house an entire week before the wedding.
"I remember Auntie Feifei asking to hire a few others to help with the wedding. Having so many guests must be difficult for her. Can you contact a few people to come help?" Minda said thinking the house would be a lot busier with so many guests.
"My wife will appreciate the help." Uncle Ran said. Minda looked over at Kai thinking they would dismount and walk up the Mountain but Ran had a different opinion.
