Chapter 20: Priority

"Allow me to butcher and deal with the deer and the smaller animals in the basket." Ran said as he helped hang the deer up next to the hunting shed. Kai wanted to reject his offer but hesitated to do so when he considered that Minda was waiting for him.

"I appreciate the offer but I can deal with them after I check on Minda." Kai decided after some thought. Ran wasn't pleased with his decision. He crossed his arms and stood in front of the deer.

"The Young Master needs your undivided attention." Ran stated with a stern voice. Kai looked at the man named Ran. He wasn't intimidated by his large size or grizzly bear appearance. However he had to admit he was right. Minda was apparently feeling unwell and needed him.

"Very well. In exchange for the help I will give you a generous portion of the deer's profits." Kai said after some thought.

"It isn't necessary. If you wish to thank me you must promise to treat the Young Master well." Ran said. Kai wasn't completely satisfied with the situation but he didn't have the time to negotiate with the man.

"I will try my best."

"What will you be doing with these?" Uncle ran asked before Kai could leave.

"The rabbits and quail will be kept and eaten tomorrow." Kai briefly said before turning around and heading over to the estate to find Minda.

"Young Master, the bath is ready." Auntie Feifei announced when she entered Minda's room.

"I want to wait a little longer." Minda said. He didn't want to go into the bath for two reasons. One, he was anxious for Kai to return. Two, Syaoran and Uncle Ran were not available meaning Auntie Feifei would have to help him into the bath.

"By the time you finish your bath I'm confident Sir Kai will have returned." Auntie Feifei said knowing why Minda refused to leave.

"Five more minutes." Minda insisted.

"Very well, but any longer and the water will be too cold."

"Thank you Auntie Feifei."

During those five minutes Auntie Feifei prepared Minda's clothing and bed. While she busily moved around the room Minda continued to stare outside the open door for Kai.

When it was time to head over to the bath Minda could no longer delay and was quickly pushed through the halls towards the the bath.

"You will feel much better after a nice long bath."

She had been observing Minda all day. Watching him massage his hand and knee with a pained grimace broke her heart. She knew he was in pain because of the drop in temperature and threat of rain.

When they reached the bath Minda was shocked to see Kai standing there.

"Kai, you're back." Minda exclaimed with a big smile.

"Sorry, it took longer than I expected." Kai said. Minda was smiling but from what he heard from Ran and the look of worry and anger on Feifei's face made it clear his absence was difficult on Minda.

"You aren't late. You said you might not be back until the evening." Minda said despite worrying about him all day. Kai walked up and tucked a lock of hair behind Minda's ear. His hand lightly touching Minda's flushed cheek in the process. Enjoying the touch Minda closed his eyes.

"I'll help Minda with his bath." Kai told Auntie Feifei who was glaring at him.

"Young Master requires a medicinal bath today. I will..."

"I'll explain it to Kai, you don't have to come in. Besides Kai also needs a bath after spending the day hunting so we can enjoy the hot water together." Minda said. When they took a bath together the day before he felt shy but he didn't hate it. Now he was looking forward to entering the bath together.
