Minda and Kai stayed in the carriage for the rest of the day. Laying in bed together they chatted about the future and simply enjoyed each others presence as they cuddled. When they were hungry Kai pulled out a few snacks and fruit to eat. All the while never once leaving each others side.
It wasn't until the next day they finally left the carriage. When they did Minda was nothing but smiles. It didn't matter how much crying and intense conversations happened after knowing he was being targeted. Just being able to cuddle for hours without interruption made him incredibly happy and all the stress that had built up since Kai's training started seemed to melt away.
"Good morning, did you sleep well?" Gen asked when they came over.
"I slept great. Do you need help with breakfast this morning?" Minda responded. He had neglected his responsibilities the day before but was eager to help today.
"Although your help is always appreciated it's not necessary today. You should enjoy your day off. I can handle breakfast for the day." Gen said.
"General Lei gave Kai the day off. I can still help." Minda said looking a bit down. After helping with the cooking for weeks he had started to really enjoy it.
"MinMin, this is a rare opportunity for us to do whatever we want. Let's take advantage of it. Do you want to head into town and eat breakfast at the market? They might have some interesting food." Kai suggested.
"Do you think they'll have something we've never seen before?" Minda asked curiously as they headed back to the carriage to prepare for their trip into town.
"I'm sure they will."
...
As they headed back to the carriage General Lei appeared.
"Well, well, well, so the two of you are alive. You were in that carriage so long I thought you had died." General sarcastically said.
"We had the day off." Kai stated before quickly changing direction to avoid talking to him.
"Where are you going? We need to talk." General Lei said with a mischievous grin.
"It's our day off." Kai repeated as he quickened his pace.
"A day off doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want. There are still things that need to be discussed." General Lei said as he chased after them.
"It can wait until tomorrow. Minda and I have plans."
"I get you want to go off and be all lovey dovey and shit but this is important." General Lei stated. Kai rolled his eyes in response but finally stopped.
"What?" He impatiently asked.
"Let's go over there to talk." General Lei said while ignoring Kai's bad attitude.
"Whatever you have to say you can say in front of MinMin." Kai proclaimed.
"Are you sure?"
"I am. Hurry up and say it. We have things to do."
Smack*
"One day off and you become a disrespectful brat!"
Kai wanted to snap back but held his tongue. When he looked at General Lei he had a scowl and it was obvious he wasn't in the mood to banter.
"Has something happened?"
"I just got word there's an ambush awaiting us in the forest three days from here. We're going to take an extra two days camping out here to resupply and meet up with Bo Chen's team." General Lei explained.
