Minda comfortably snuggled up in Kai's arms. They slept well until Kai heard a light knock on the carriage door. It was a signal for him to wake up and prepare to join the night guard. He quietly slipped out of bed trying his best not to wake Minda but failed.

"Kai?"

"I'm here." He said. Hearing Kai's usual response Minda smiled but it soon disappeared when he saw Kai start dressing.

"Are you leaving?" Minda asked.

"It's time for me to do guard duty."

"Be safe."

"Always."

Kai gave Minda several soft sweet kisses on his forehead, cheeks, and lips. He was worried about Minda getting any sleep after he left but knew he would only be gone for a few hours and wouldn't be able to stay with him even if he wanted to.

...

Alone, Minda wasn't interested in going back to sleep. Instead he leaned over and used the flint to light the little lantern hung in the carriage. It's small light warmly lit the inside of the carriage.

Auntie Feifei and Uncle Ran had worked hard to equip the carriage with everything Minda would need. He reached over the wall separating the bed from the back where the luggage was kept. It was perfectly organized so Minda could easily find the chest with his ink and scrolls.

He pulled it out and using the little bed tray he set up to start writing. He thought about adding to the travel journal but preferred doing it with Kai and set it aside for later.

"Maybe I'll paint a quick picture." Minda thought. He looked around for inspiration and saw the two little snow leopards sleeping nose to nose like they were sharing a little kiss. Inspired Minda pulled out the coloured ink and started to mix it.

Keeping to his favourite animal theme Minda decided to paint a tiger and red panda sharing a kiss. The image wasn't too large but he thought of it as a little love note to Kai.

...

Kai surveyed the surroundings fully equipped with his weapons and armour. Not having worn it in a long time he found himself recalling the past.

"I can't say I miss this life." Kai thought as he walked around. His eyes constantly looking over at Minda's carriage. He had long noticed the candle light and couldn't help but wonder what he was doing inside.

"Kai, don't forget what we're here to do." Houtian reminded him when he passed by.

"Sorry, I'm obviously out of practice." Kai said.

"This isn't about about practice. It's obvious to all of us that your priorities have changed. You're no longer a soldier. You're a husband and man looking forward to spending a quiet life together with his spouse." Houtian said.

"I didn't realize I had changed so much after just a few months." Kai admitted.

"It's not a bad thing. You've managed to get the life we've all dreamed of and we're happy for you. Just try not to get too distracted when on guard duty from now on." Houtian sincerely said as he pat Kai's shoulder. He then walked off to continue his rounds leaving Kai to do the same.

...

After a few hours the sun peeked over the horizon signalling the end of his shift. He returned to the carriage to check on Minda. Everyone would be waking soon and Minda would need to help prepare breakfast.

"MinMin, I'm coming in." Kai said gently knocking on the carriage door.

"Welcome back. Did anything happen?" Minda asked, his eyes quickly scanning Kai's body for any changes.
