Minda brought along the leopards. The two of them quietly lounged on his lap as Kai pushed them around in his wheelchair through the halls towards the kitchen.

"What else did you catch while hunting?" Minda asked.

"The area Ran suggested was promising. I managed to trap three ibex, foxes, and a few other small animals." Kai said.

"I've never seen an ibex. Are they worth a lot of money?"

"The meat isn't worth as much as a deer but with the horns and thick pelts the final price I can get for them will be higher. I'll be able to get several small gold for them. The fox pelts are also worth a decent price." Kai explained.

"Does that mean you won't have to leave on another hunting trip?" Minda asked.

"I don't have plans to go hunting for a while. But I was thinking of planning a regular hunting trip. Maybe a week long trip every month." Kai said.

"Why do you need to go so often?" Minda asked with a light pout.

"I don't like being caught without money." Kai said.

"Do you have to leave for a full week every month? Why not just a day trip or a week every few months?"

"I know you'll miss me but leaving for a week garners better results."

"Can I go with you next time?"

"If your health improves enough and the doctor agrees I would be happy to take you along." Kai said.

...

At dinner, Minda filled a little bowl with milk and placed the leopard cubs on the table to drink it .

"Not on the table." Kai said.

"Why not?"

"They're animals. They should eat on the floor."

"They're too small."

"They need to learn that the table is not a place for them. Otherwise they'll climb all over the place when they get older."

"They're cats, I mean leopards. They love climbing everywhere and being free." Minda said.

"They still shouldn't be on the table with their dirty paws." Kai said.

Minda stubbornly stared at him but Kai had no intention on changing the rule. Minda picked up the little Huan and Xuanli and softly placed them on the floor.

"Looks like your papa Kai is really strict." Minda grumbled to them. Huan gave a soft high pitched yowl in response.

"One of us needs to be." Kai responded with a smirk.

...

After dinner, Kai brought Minda down the mountain to the stables where he left the cart with the ibex. He had talked to Ran about arranging to sell them the next day to his contacts for a great price.

"They look heavy." Minda thought as he peeked through the gaps to look at the ibex staying in the stable.

"The horns are big and tough. The ibex use them to fight up in the mountains by smashing their heads against one another."

"They sound dangerous."

"No more than any other large animal."

"Do they taste good?" Minda asked.

"I'll have the butcher give us a portion of their meat. You can try it yourself." Kai said.

"Won't that reduce the price you get?"
