"Hey, Kai! You okay? I heard old man Li beat the shit out of you yesterday." A mysterious boy shouted from outside the door.
Kai woke up with a pounding headache. His body was aching and the boy's shout only made his headache worse. He looked around the room confused. He had no idea where he was or why there was a boy shouting outside the door. He ignored the boy's yelling and tried to make sense of the situation.
"Minda?" Kai whispered. His mind was a mess but one thing was clear. It was the image of Minda in his arms.
"I have to find him... I will find him." Kai muttered. He had no idea what was happening. He only knew he had to find the young man Minda. He raised his aching body from the cot in the corner of the room. It was strange. Something felt off.
"Kai! You dead?" The young boy shouted when he didn't hear a response. The boy was feeling impatient. He started rattling the locked door. Kai walked over and opened it. Standing there was a young boy maybe 14 of 15 years old. Kai didn't recognize him but the boy seemed to know him. He pushed passed Kai and entered the room.
"I didn't believe it when the guys told me old man Li got the jump on you but man you look horrible." The boy said with a sneer.
"Who are you?" Kai asked.
"What do you mean? I'm your good buddy Xiaobo. We've known each other for years."
Kai squinted his eyes as he observed the young man. His hair was roughly tied up and his face dirty from years of living on the streets. Beneath the dirt seemed to be a face full of freckles. He was also a very thin boy. The more he looked at the young man the more certain he was that the boy was a stranger.
"I really don't know you." Kai confirmed. The boy looked shocked and hurt by his words.
"Did you hit your head so hard you lost you're memory?" He asked with worry. He reached out to check Kai's head for injury. Kai didn't like the idea of being touched. He raised his hand to stop him when he noticed his own hand.
"What happened to the scar on my hand?" Kai wondered.
He had a very distinctive scar on the back of his hand since he was 8 years old. He got it when he and his parents were attacked by bandits. They were on their way to visit General Lei, an old friend of the family, when suddenly from the forest a group of bandits appeared. They attacked without mercy and both his parents were killed. His life was spared because his father threw him down a hill. The fall was rough. He received several distinct scars from his injuries that day. The day he became an orphan.
The most noticeable scar was at the back of his right hand. It was in the shape of four jagged scratches. It was because of this scar he gained the nickname Little Tiger as a child because it resembled the scratch marks a tiger might leave behind.
When Kai noticed it was missing he pulled away his clothing. Staring at his bare chest Kai was shocked. He remembered being an older man with a thick layer of hair on his chest and a stocky build with a thick and sturdy torso. But the current body he was looking at now was bare chested. It was muscular with well defined muscles but he seemed to be a lot leaner and definitely younger.
"What the f*ck is going on?!" Kai mused. His shock evident on his face.
"What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost." Xiaobo said.
"Where is this place?" Kai asked. More than his body he was worried about Minda. If his body was different and he didn't recognize the place then he feared the worst for Minda.
"Man old man Li really messed you up." Xiaobo responded.
"Where?" Kai repeated impatiently.
"We're in the Grand old Capital City. Where men come to succeed or rot away in the alleys like us." He exclaimed. Kai was relieved to know he was in the Capital. The dungeon he and Minda were locked up in wasn't far away.
