Staring at an asleep Flint, sound of the door opening filled the silent, barely lit room. Turning my head, I saw that it was Azrael holding two packs.
"Ready?" I nodded, standing up from the bed. Looking back at Flint, my expression softening before I leaned down, pressing my forehead against his. "We'll be back." I whispered.
Pulling away, Flint's eyes squinted and he mumbled something. Turning to lay on his side, back now facing me.
Running my fingers through his hair, I studied his sleeping form for a moment before finally moved away and over to Azrael.
I looked up at her, closing my eyes and leaning into her touch when she cupped my face with her hand. "You can stay if you want, Iris. I can end this alone." I shook my head. "No, I'm coming."
Dropping her hand, Azrael handed me one of the packs, this one being smaller than the other. "The others are waiting for us outside. Stick close to me, the storm has gotten worst."
Exiting the room, I glanced over at Flint. Seeing that he was still sound asleep and silently shut the door. Turning to Azrael and walking side by side with her as we exited the mountain.
Stepping outside into the bitter cold, I moved closer to Azrael as the harsh winds slam against me and heavy flakes of snow fell. I shivered.
Wrapping my arms around me, I looked over at the group. Studying each and every one of them. There was Ash, the shewolf that eats her meat semi raw, Leo, Roxie, a small girl named Fawn, her cousin Birch I believe, Hunter, one of our best warriors who was also with us when Azrael and I went to meet King Aspen, and surprisingly Elder Silverstar. Why's that ancient wolf coming with us? Isn't he too old to fight?
Meeting my gaze, Elder Silverstar huffed. Giving me a small nod before turning to Azrael when she took a step forward. "Shift, we're wasting time."
"Yes, Alpha." They all bowed their heads before we took off our clothes. Putting them in our packs before quickly shifting into our wolf forms.
It helped with the cold a little but even with fur, it was freezing out here.
Grabbing my pack with my mouth, I looked over to Azrael. Seeing her in her large, black fur wolf form. Staring at me as she held her pack, leaning over and rubbing her head against mine.
Huffing, I did the same back before we pulled away. Looking over at the others, she gave a swift nod. Then, stared to run with me by her side and the others following behind.
The harsh winds smacked against us, slowing us down, our fur blowing everywhere and was very loud, snow covering our backs with said snow also being human knee deep which caused some more trouble running as time ticked away.
Nearly bumping into tress cause we couldn't see a couple feet away didn't help either. I slammed my side rather roughly against one when dodging a tree but moved out of the way too late.
And carrying our packs in our mouths made our mouths and throats dry. We had to stop at a river that luckily didn't freeze over yet when it was dark and take a small break. It was freezing, but helped with the dryness.
Licking my muzzle, I turned to see Azrael motion us to come over. Letting out a small bark to the others, they lifted their heads from the river and noticed Azrael. Picking up their packs and following her as Azrael guided us into the trees.
Walking for a bit, we reached a semi huge cave. She stopped in the front of it and nodded her head towards it. Getting the message, we didn't hesitate to go inside.
I let out a sigh of relief now that I was finally out of the wind. Shaking my body to get the snow off, I ventured to the end of the cave before putting my pack down.
It wasn't the warmest but it was better than sleeping outside.
Also putting their packs down, Ash and Leo yawned. Not hesitating on laying down, cuddling close to each other for warmth, then instantly fell asleep. The rest followed suit and soon, there was a giant wolf, cuddle party.
Laying down next to Roxie, my ears shot up at the sound of paw steps. Turning my head, I saw that it was Azrael. Watching as she stepped carefully over everyone to get to me.
Putting my head back down on my paws, she laid down behind me. Curling herself around me, warming me up with her face next to mine.
Letting out a quiet whine, I leaned over and gently licked her face, making Azrael open her slightly tired eyes. She softly groaned, lifting her head and placing it on me, using me as a pillow.
I rolled my eyes at that, not protesting as I kept still to not disturb her and closed my eyes. Falling asleep while listening to the wind.
When morning came, we eat some jerky from our packs before taking off again. This day was worst then yesterday, the wind and snow had become more intense and it was difficult to navigate through it. Running through it wasn't a run in a park either. I couldn't even tell if we were going the right way.
After what felt like an eternity, Azrael stopped us when it got dark and we cuddled together close to the trees to keep what little warmth we had left.
Shivering, I glanced over at my mate who was curled around me once again. Whimpering, she looked at me and I saw the pain in her eyes. Was this plan a mistake? Should we go back?
I wanted to ask that, but I didn't have the heart to. Don't know why, I just did. Staring at Azrael for a minute, I put down my head and snuggle close to her with my shaking body.
After a few days of this, the storm finally came to a stop and the sky cleaned up. Showing the blue that I was starting to miss. I was exhausted.
