Your Hope's Peak acceptance letter.

That dreaded thing.

It just made your life worse.

It was already bad enough, 'hope' this, 'despair' that.. It's been all you've been hearing since you were born.

Growing up you had to witness the most horrid situations, fuelled by your own unluck. Luckily they were cancelled out by your father's luck, but you were still prone to being a near victim of car crashes, or falling light posts, or anything that could lead to death. It was a tiring life, knowing the whole world was against you but still being able to live on and experience near death scenarios.

You were always told it was contributing to something in this world, inspiring 'hope' into people around you in your day to day life. You thought it was all crap, it didn't even make sense on how it would inspire hope into others.

"I'm going, I've gotta be at school early today!"

You shouted as you unlocked the front door, pressing your body weight towards it,

"Early?" You heard your father question from the living room, hearing footsteps get closer and closer.

"Yeah. Exam week." Before you could open the door, Nagito was standing beside you,"They require future talents to go to school earlier now?" He smiled.

"Not just 'future talents'," you mocked him hesitantly,"everyone."

Hia smile faded a little,"It would be good for your school to have certain privileges, for example for trash like me..You're a stepping stone for bringing hope to this world, N/N, don't you think it's only fair you get the good end of the stick?"

There he went again, talking to you about the 'privilege' you held above every other kid in your school just because you were considered talented.

"No, we all need an equal opportunity for these exams, dad. I'm going now, bye.." You promptly left the house, silently making your way to school.

Nagito's words bothered you all day; he wanted you to be special, be loved by everyone, he wanted you to be some sort of symbol in society.

His constant berating of himself was all just to put you in the spotlight, almost as if your 'talent' was greater than the monstrosity his was.

But it bothered you so much, that your own father valued your 'talent' over who you were. You strived for such good grades, for something that would define you outside of your absolutely horrible luck, but he never saw past that. When you'd show him that you were at the top of your class, all he could do was degrade himself and call you a "stepping stone" for hope. He never, ever recognised your achievements, never realised how valuable your life might be just because of all of the near death experiences you had.

Right now you were walking home, mulling over what he had told you that morning before you left for school. You couldn't let the idea of being special slip past your mind, it was so enticing to be treated more than good just because you were one of the lucky few that got recognised as someone who had a significant advantage in something.
