Taylor's POV
I was at home, sitting in the studio room Travis had built me into his house when my phone rang in the late afternoon. Glancing up from my guitar, I looked at my phone, expecting it to be Travis.
He was out of town at the moment for an away game, which I hadn't been able to attend since I'd had a shoot the day before. But it wasn't Travis' name on my phone. It was Kylie calling, and I paused for a moment before I answered.
Kylie was only a few weeks into another new part of motherhood. Her and Jason had welcomed their fourth daughter almost a month ago. Baby Charlotte was absolutely adorable. She was the spitting image of Kylie with the same baby blonde hair as the other three girls, and she was an absolute darling. I'd absolutely doted on her the first time Travis and I had been over.
"Hey Ky." I said softly when I answered the phone.
"Hi." She sobbed.
"Oh Ky, Ky what's going on?" I pushed my guitar aside, all of my attention shifting. "What do you need?"
"Can you come over?" Kylie mumbled, sniffling a little.
"Yeah, yeah of course." I was on my feet in a second, heading for the door. "Where's Jason?"
"He took the other three girls out so I could spend some time alone with Charlie." Kylie told me. "But I just..." I could hear the baby wailing int he background, and my heart throbbed for her. "I just need help and I don't want to call Jason right now."
"Ky I'm on my way." I reassured her. "Ten minutes okay? I love you."
"I love you too." Kylie sniffled.
Hanging up, I stuffed my phone into my pocket and moved through the house. I grabbed some snacks and a hot water bottle just in case Kylie didn't have one. Then I left the house, making sure to silence my phone on the way. This was about Kylie.
When I got there, the door was already unlocked. Slipping inside, I locked the door and walked down the hallway, trying to be quiet. But I could already hear the baby crying and Kylie sniffing to herself.
"Hey, hey Ky." I rushed to my sister-in-law on the couch when I rounded the corner, putting my arm around her shoulder. Charlotte was in a little rocker at Kylie's feet, wailing. "Oh Ky, you're okay." I hugged her close. "Bad day huh?"
"Yeah." She sank against my shoulder. "I just can't do it Tay. I'm so tired."
"Okay, that's okay." I rubbed her shoulder. "You don't have to do it. Why don't you go and sleep and I'll watch her? I brought snacks if you're hungry; just go lie down for a bit."
"Thank you." Kylie lifted her head. "God, are you sure? I feel bad but I just can't right now. I'm so exhausted."
I nodded, handing her the little bag I'd brought. Kylie's shoulders slumped as she got up, and I watched as she trudged off. Glad that she was getting some rest, I looked down at baby Charlotte.
"Oh hey sweetie pie." I reached into her rocker and lifted her up into my arms, sitting back on the couch. "Let's give your momma a break huh?" I murmured, resting the baby against my chest and rubbing her back gently.
God she was cute. I couldn't believe how much I loved her. My precious little niece was the sweetest little angel in the world and I loved her more than anything. She gave me the biggest waves of baby fever ever to exist, and made me want a baby of my own so damn badly.
Travis and I had talked about babies before, but it was a little bit of a touchy subject. He was really scared about the thought of becoming a dad one day, since his past relationships had really messed him up. His exes had told him he would be a terrible father, useless at taking care of anything, and he'd lived through that so much he'd believed it himself. At first Travis had deflected the conversation about us having a family because he'd been scared, but once he'd realized I wanted all of that, he became more open to the idea. He wasn't ready yet, but that was okay. I'd wait as long as it took him to be ready, and if he never was, I'd come to terms with that too.
