the masses have spoken, and it's MY turn to write this now
Travis' POV
I'd never been so nervous in my life. Genuinely, this was the most terrifying thing I'd ever had to face, but I'd also never craved something so badly. I'd been thinking about this day for so long, but now it was actually happening, it almost didn't feel real.
The ring box felt like it weighed a ton in my pocket, and I kept anxiously poking it just in case it had magically vanished. Nothing would be worse than getting down on one knee and then not having a ring to pull out. But it was still there, and still there, and still there.
"Good dinner outfit?" I heard Taylor's voice come from behind me. I turned, and my heart pounded.
"You look gorgeous. sweetie" I whispered as she gave me a little spin, showing off the white dress clad in little blue stripes. She'd never looked so good in a dress before.
"Thank you." Taylor smiled, coming over to where I stood, my hands in my pockets. "You look nice." She told me, stretching up in her heeled sandals to press her lips to my cheek, and I smiled back at her. "Should we go? It's early but..."
"Actually." I cut her off gently, taking one hand out of my pocket and slipping it around her waist to press against the small of her back. "I thought we could have a glass of wine first...walk around the garden."
"Okay." Taylor seemed surprised at the idea but also delighted, tucking her hair out of her face a moment before I lowered my lips to her cheek.
"Be right back." I whispered, letting my hand fall away from her back.
Nerves were racing through every cell in my body as I went to the kitchen, coming back a minute later with two small glasses of wine. Taylor took hers with a smile, reaching to lace her fingers through mine with our free hands as we walked slowly outside, the light breeze soft and comforting. We talked as we strolled down the garden, and my nervousness continued to rise when we neared the corner that would take us around to where I'd organized it all.
The podcast had been the perfect cover. While we'd been holed up in the studio, I'd had people filling this part of the garden with Taylor's favorite flowers, making it absolutely perfect for her. I hadn't wanted to go all out and over the top for her; she wouldn't want that. Taylor didn't want fireworks and a huge sign or an audience for this. She just wanted something simple, perfect, and us. If I'd done anything, I'd make sure to give her that.
"What - oh!" Taylor gasped when we rounded the corner into the little bit of the garden I'd chosen for this. Her hand tightened in mine as she stumbled to a stop, eyes going wide and threatening to fill with tears as she looked at me. "Travis." She breathed, most of her voice trapped in her throat, so only a whisper escaped. "Baby...is this really happening right now?"
"Only if you want it to." I said quietly, turning back to face her where she'd stopped. My heart was thumping hard, terrified, and I knew it would shatter my confidence if she asked me not to do this now, but I also knew she wouldn't. I saw the look on her face.
Taylor nodded, fighting off tears as I put my wine glass down, reaching to take hers and set it aside too. She clutched my hand tightly as I took a step, and her feet shuffled forwards to follow. I knew this wasn't unexpected for her since we'd talked about what we wanted for our future, but actually having it happen was probably a shock.
"Travis it's so beautiful." She whispered as we very slowly walked through the throng of pink and white flowers, unable to stop looking around at everything. I smiled, leading her through the arch, over to the little spot I'd picked out for this.
