for the strongest, most loving girl i know <3

Taylor's POV

"Okay, hop up and we can get a look at your little one." The ultrasound tech - Tash - told me, starting to set up the machine. Travis helped me up onto the folded back chair, making sure I was comfortable before he sat down next to me, still holding my hand.

"You excited?" He whispered. "We get to find out today."

"I'm so excited." I bit down on a smile, gazing over at my husband.

I was eighteen weeks pregnant today, and we were going to find out whether we were going to have a boy or a girl. We could have done it earlier, but we'd both decided to wait. Travis was insistent on thinking that our baby was a boy, while I was hovering and wasn't really set on what I thought. I didn't care. We'd been trying for a baby for two years, and this was our little miracle.

As Tash spread the cold gel onto my stomach, I clutched Travis' hand a little tighter, starting to get nervous. In the last two years of trying to get pregnant, we'd had a few very short pregnancies that had ended before I'd got into the second trimester. It had broken our hearts, but now we had our baby that we were going to take care of like it was the last thing we'd do on earth. But a part of me was still terrified that things might go wrong again.

"Breathe." Travis murmured, cupping my hand in both of his. "It's okay baby."

"I know." I sighed, looking over at him. "I'm just..."

"Yeah." Travis gave me a reassuring smile. "But hey." He leaned in to kiss my cheek. "After this, we'll take the envelope with the baby's gender and go find out together. It'll be perfect."

I nodded, comforted by the idea of Travis and I sharing that moment. All I'd ever wanted was this process for us, and it was happening. We planned on getting Tash to write the gender down for us, and then going to a diner near our house to give the envelope to them. We'd decided to ask if they could make us a chocolate milkshake if we were having a boy, and a strawberry milkshake if we were having a girl. It'd be just us, at our favorite diner, and I knew it was going to be perfect.

"Okay, let's get a picture up." Tash said, and I moved my arms so she could get the best angle at my stomach. Travis and I both looked over at the ultrasound screen as Tash ran the wand over my bump, and after a minute it flickered to life.

A happy sigh of relief left my lips as a soft heartbeat sound came from the machine, the screen showing a blurry yet unmistakable picture of our baby. Travis' fingers squeezed mine and I squeezed his back, both of us silently bonded in our moment of shared relief and adoration. My eyes were trapped on the image of my uterus on the screen, our baby nestled there, safe and warm.

"Perfect little one you've got there." Tash smiled, and I knew she was as relieved as we were. She'd been with us since the start of Travis and I trying to have a baby, and she'd seen us go through the worst. "Congratulations guys." She smiled at us, and I thought I almost saw a tear in her eye before she looked away.

I looked up at my husband, fighting tears of my own only to find that he was already crying. A few tears had escaped down his cheeks, but I knew they were good tears. I'd only seen this look on his face twice before, and it was the day he'd proposed, and the day we'd gotten married. These were happy tears.

"I'm so proud of you baby." Travis whispered, smiling at me. "I love you so much."

"I love you too." I whispered back, lifting my free hand to gently wipe his tears away and then cup his cheek, just holding his gaze.
