It was Tuesday morning Adam was driving them to the appointment.He asked Connor to stay an extra day so someone could be with the kids. The ride was quiet he'd periodically look over at her. Sally stared out the window the whole time. Adam noticed her fidgeting he reached over and took her hand, Sally looked down when she felt his touch
"So how did you get us in so fast"she said in a low tone
"I have my ways" he winked at her "You should know that by now"
Sally didn't react she went back to looking out the window
Adam hated how shut down she became. He just held tightly to her hand and was stroking his thumb along her knuckles
   They were at a stoplight he stared in front of him
"Adam"she said all shaky
"Ya"he looked over at her
"If I do decide .."she stopped and took in a deep breath "If I decide to not go through with this"she had tears forming "Will you look at me differently" she asked looking down
   Adam exhaled and let go of her hand which confused Sally. He then pulled over and parked the car. He turned to face her
"Sally"he said softly "Look into my eyes" he said
Sally remained looking down. Adam placed his hand on her chin to make her look at him
"No matter what you decide to do today. To have this baby ... or not" he paused "Nothing will change my feelings for you or how I look at you. Do you hear me"
"You promise" she cried "Because I'm so scared you'll resent me later"
Adam cupped her face "I promise you"he whispered
Sally hugged him tight and cried into him, she felt him rub her back
"Baby as much as I'd love to hold you ..  and I will later. We need to get going or we'll be late" he told her
Sally pulled out of his hold "Okay" she said quietly.
  She went back to looking out the window as Adam began to drive again
"I just want this over with"she whispered

   Adam was filling out the paperwork for Sally because her mind wasn't focusing. He looked over
"You doing okay" he asked "Are you nervous"
Sally nodded
"Is it because it's a new place and a new doctor or is it about the pregnancy" he asked
"Both I think" she told him as she took deep breaths
Adam reached over and squeezed her thigh "If it helps you I'm right here with you"
Sally rested her head on his shoulder
Adam eyed the door "But if you need more than me" he started to say
"Sally Newman "a familiar voice was heard
Sally looked up and her eyes met her best friend's
"Elena" she said racing over to her and hugging her "What are you doing here
"Remember I told you I was offered to head up the hospital here"she smiled then looked over at Adam "And your husband here called in a favor" she told her
Sally looked at Adam and gave him a small smile "So this is how you got us in so fast"she asked
"Guilty" he smirked "But honestly I did it because I knew you needed your best friend right now"
Sally hugged him from the side wrapping her arms around him "Thank you and I love you"she said softly into him
" I love you too" he kissed her head
"You two ready"Elena gesture for them to come along
"Come on" he whispered as he walked her back

   Elena brought them into an exam room after she had Sally do a couple tests. Sally sat on the table as Elena was getting her information. Adam sat next to her
"So do you know how far along you are"Elena asked
Sally shook her head "I know I can't be that far .. I believe it happened in California"
Elena nodded "That's alright we will figure it out when I examine you" she smiled
"I wasn't expecting this to happen so soon after Wes"she said nervously
"You'd be surprised how many couples say that"Elena chuckled
"Ya but I bet they wanted the baby"Sally said under her breathe
  Both Elena and Adam have each other looks, he gestured for her to continue
"Now while we wait for the bloodwork why don't I try an ultrasound to help put your mind at ease" she suggested
   Sally nodded and laid back. Adam stood up and took her hand he was surprised when he felt her grip it tight
"Now this might be a little uncomfortable for just a second"Elena informed her
"Whatever" Sally said breathing in heavily. She stared up at the ceiling and began to count the tiles
  Adam never took his eyes off Elena who was looking at the monitor. He saw her face become concerning
"Elena what's wrong"he asked
  The tone of Adam's voice broke Sally out of the trance she put herself in she looked over at Adam first then Elena
"Elena"Sally said leaning up a bit "Is something wrong"she asked
Elena plan the wand down and looked up and gave her a small smile "Sit tight.I'm gonna go see if your results are back"she told her and to pat her knee then left
This made Sally panic, she looked over at Adam freaked out
"Adam what could be wrong"she asked
Adam placed his hand on her shoulder "I'm sure it's nothing"he smiled "It could be to early to see anything on screen or something only Elena would know"he took her hand
Sally nodded and sighed and laid her head back down "What if it's me Adam what if something is wrong with me" she began to cry
Adam leaned in close to her "Hey" he said squeezing her hand "Don't go there everything is going to be okay"he told her softly

A few minutes later Elena came back in holding the paperwork but she didn't say a word to them yet. She wheeled the stool over in front of them
Sally sat up "This silence means something is wrong doesn't it" she said
"What did you find"Adam asked
Elena looked at both of them, then looked at Sally "It's what didn't find Sally"she said then gave her a sympathetic look "I'm so sorry there's no baby"
"So... I wasn't pregnant it was false positive" Sally asked
Elena looked at the paper "Not exactly" she came closer to Sally
"I don't understand are you saying it was all in my head are trying to tell me I'm crazy" Sally began to freak out
"No" Elena took her hand "The bloodwork showed that you were pregnant"
"So what I miscarried but I didn't feel anything... yes I was spotting but I thought.."Sally said
"Sally you had what they call a chemical pregnancy" she informed them
"A chemical pregnancy.. what ... what's that"Adam asked looking confused
"It's an early miscarriage the embryo formed which told your body it was pregnant but it stopped developing right away" she said. She looked over at Sally
Sally turned away from her hiding her tears
"Sally, look at me"Elena said looking at her to get her contact. She held her hand "I know this all overwhelming right now. But you have to know this happens, some women don't even know they were ever pregnant"she told her
"But I had early symptoms.. so lucky me"Sally said sarcastically
"I know it's a lot"she smiled and placed her hand on Sally's cheek, then looked at Adam "I'll give two a minute"she told them and left
Adam let go of Sally's hand she looked at him confused
"Adam, are you okay"she asked
Adam didn't look at her he stared at his hands
"Adam"she tried again
"Are you ready to go"he asked
"Elena left to give us time. So talk to me" she said
"We don't need time .. let's just go" he got up
Sally could tell something was bothering him, but knew better not to press him here

After they said goodbye to Elena and left. There was silence between the two of them. Adam didn't walk beside her. Sally sped up to get in front of him blocking him from the car. Adam glared at her
"What"he said coldly
Sally held out her hand "Give me the keys" she said
Adam have her a confused look "Why" he asked
"Because I know you.Your head is somewhere else and if you get behind the wheel you will possibly make our kids orphans"she gestured for them "Keys now"
"I'm fine, let's go"he tried to move around her
Sally stopped him "Don't you make me use my mom voice on you. I'm driving that's final"she said sternly
Adam let out a groan and looked up and placed them in her hand roughly and went to the passenger side
Sally let out a sigh and waited for Adam to get in before getting in herself

The car ride was silent but not like before. Adam avoided Sally at all costs and stared at his phone. When he felt the car park he noticed they weren't home
"Why are we at N+S"he asked
"Just get out and follow me" she told him getting out of the car not waiting for him to respond
Adam finally made it to to the office and found Sally standing there waiting for him with her arms crossed. Once he entered she shut the door
"Why did we come here. And what's with your behavior" he asked
Sally took a deep breath and walked around "Because I need to have a conversation with you and I know you wouldn't have it with me at home" she told him
"Okay about what Sally" he asked
"I noticed something shift with you when Elena told us"she stopped
"Of course something shifted Sally we thought we were going to have a baby and now"he paused
"There's no baby" she finished "But that's not what this is about"she gestured towards him "You haven't been able to look at me Adam .. so this is about me what did I do" she asked
Adam looked over at her but did respond
"Come on you can't even tell me"she said "You are the one who always tell our kids to open up and say what they are feeling"she stepped forward "You are also the one who wants me to lean on you"she took his hands "Why won't you do the same"she asked
"Because it's different Sally"he let go of her hands and walked away
"How is it Adam something is going on let me help you"
"Oh like you let me" he snapped at her
Sally was taking aback but didn't respond
"Just let this go Sally.We told Connor we wouldn't be long"he tried to leave
Sally stopped him grabbing his wrist "I already texted him. He's all good with the kids. Now you have no more excuses"she told him
Adam put his hands in his pockets "Sally you don't really want to know"
Sally looked around the office "If I didn't, we would be home and whatever is bothering you would continue to eat you alive until you break "she placed her hands on his arms "Take it from me I know what that feels like... let it out Adam"
"Fine, but remember you asked"he said walking to his desk and leaned against it "Just like you my mind is racing I'm trying to understand all this" he began
"Okay"she said "Take your time" she added
"You are wondering about my behavior well I'm doing the same... with you"he said looking at her before continuing "Back with Elena .. when she told us. I watched you, your reaction didn't match your behavior the past couple days. You were emotional almost sad"
"Well ya Adam I lost a baby no matter it being early on" she stated
"A baby you didn't want to have less than twenty four hours ago"his voice raised
"So you are annoyed that I'm human"she was confused
"No never Sal. I'm not even upset I'm confused"he said
"About what"she asked
Adam looked at her "Were you afraid that this baby wasn't mine"
