"Congratulations on your graduation, Yuuki-senpai." Tori said as he and the other juniors give Makoto gifts. "Mhm. Thank you, Himemiya-kun." Yuuki said. "Haha. You don't call me 'Monkey with Glasses' as much anymore now " He then said.
"Have you grown up or have I become someone you can respect I wonder?" He then asked. "Obviously the former. And I haven't been giving people weird nicknames much lately haven't I?" Tori asked. "I'm always cute but there are parts of me that are constantly changing." He then said.
"That's true. You've really grown, Himemiya-kun. Compared to the first DDD when I first faced you, you are now a completely different person." Makoto said. "That's my line though..." Tori said. "Ugh~ My past self really frustrates me for judging this glasses guy as the weakest in Trickstar." He added with a sigh.
"But I think that's true...I've always been a side character, both back then and now. The ones always at the center of things are Hidaka-kun, Akehoshi-kun or the Student Council President, Isara-kun. And of course Anzu. She came to Yumenosaki all alone and has become one of the top producers in the industry." Makoto said.
"I just wanted to play the role of a 'helpful best friend' of those main characters." He added. "What's with that? Some kind of manga plot?" Tori asked. "Ah no it's more like a game. In old romance games the best friend was usually the one who gave the protagonist useful information." Makoto said.
"Game-brained....Reality is different from fictions okay?" Tori said. "Is it? I think everyone lives within a story to some extent. This situation too. Look at this annual 'farewell party' of our Tennis Club." Makoto said. "We did it last year too. I was so surprised when Izumi-senpai ended up bawling his eyes out. Time flies. It feels like it was just yesterday." Tori said.
"Yep. The tennis club feels much more relaxing now after so many unique seniors all graduated last year." Makoto said. "That's because you're such an easygoing captain, Yuuki-senpai." Tori said with a sigh. "But that's who I am, most of the time." Makoto said.
"Even the members and environment have changed, here we are, holding the same 'farewell party' as last year. We're tied to the past. Beyond tradition, there's no real reason for us to hold this event again just a vague feeling that it'd feel wrong not to. We don't have a strong desire or motive to do this. It feels like everyone's awkwardly following a script." He added.
"Graduation feels the same way. It's like everyone's somber out of habit because it's the season for it, not because they really feel it." He then said. "Somber out of habit...." Tori said. "Last year things got messy with the chaos of the Repayment Festival right before graduation. Now it feels like everyone's trying to repeat that." Makoto said.
"It's like they're forcing things to get chaotic. If no one complained everything could've gone smoothly without a hitch. Anzu loves seeing everyone smile, she went out of her way to make sure things wouldn't get too somber. And she's been turned the Repayment Festival into a peaceful White Chocolate Fes." He added.
"She wants everyone to leave with a smile to show that it's nothing something to be sad about. In fact it's something to celebrate. Graduation is supposed to be bright and optimistic right? We won't attend Yumenosaki anymore but we'll continue our activities at ES as always. It's not even a goodbye, just a slight change in our roles. Honestly what's there to be sad about?" He then said.
"Everyone seems like they're not really sad but they're forcing themselves to feel that way because it feels wrong not to." He added. "...I can only guess about the unstable emotions of the graduating seniors. But Yuuki-senpai, it's annoying how you analyse, interpret and critique everyone condescendingly." Tori said. "Haha. That's my bad habit. Viewing everything like a game player. I guess it's not good." Makoto said.
