Danger doesn't lurk
around every corner
waiting patiently to strike
or stab you from behind
when your guard is up
he hides in plain sight
holding a switch blade in his pocket
Disguised as a smiling man
in a nice snazzy suit
he'll lure you into a false sense of security
make you feel welcome as you invite him in
and happily shake your hand
before he cuts it off
and sells it to the highest bidder
He'll carry pieces of you home with him
returning comfortably to bed
counting the fingers
he stole from your palm
as if he never did anything wrong
because betrayal and self-serving greed
just comes naturally to him
