they played no part in making 

They hurt your feelings 

with brutal truths 

when you're used to being coddled 

by gentle lies and false flattery 

they break you down 

not out of malice 

but so you might build yourself back up 

stronger 

wiser 

better 

to fix the mistakes you've been avoiding 

so you can't keep sleepwalking 

through your own life 

They tarnish their own name 

taint their own reputations 

hoist everyone's weight of hostility 

upon their own shoulders 

for the sake of your growth 

they carry the burden 

of disapproval 

of misunderstanding 

of being the "bad guy" 

all so others can bloom in their wake
