Cracks in the ceilings of our skulls
blood on the walls of our flesh
the floorboards of our bones creak
with memories of agitated screams
We tumble down the stairs of insanity
twisting knives of betrayal in each other's backs
scarring the wallpaper of our skin
with wounds that never heal
etched in self-loathing and guilt
Skeletons in our closets
feed the lies festering
in the attics of our minds
sinking us into the flooded basements
of our blackened, bitter hearts
Our moods swing like pendulum clocks
insomnia drifts through restless halls
lights flicker with mounting anxiety
toxic emotions spread like a gas leak
poisoning the air
coating our home in fresh layers of disrepair
Gaping holes
in the ruins of our crumbling foundation
trauma lurks behind locked doors
as we shut each other out
leaving behind the bruises of mutual abuse
traded with tender spite
This house is haunted
by the vengeful ghosts
conjured up from all the heartbreak
that we failed to exorcise
