I miss the days
when my curiosity ran free
wild and unashamed
a reckless bird
tearing holes in the sky
soaring across distant realms
no one else
ever dared to enter
Now it sits in a cage of glass
beaten down into normalcy and complacency
my hands too afraid to reach
for the cracks that still shimmer with light
fear whispers louder than wonder
and doubt has sharpened its teeth
on the marrow of my bones
binding me in ropes
leaving my paralyzed with inaction
too afraid to even step outside
Some nights
when the world is quiet
I still hear it calling out to me
that fragile voice
humming at the edges of my mind
reminding me I was once a seeker
an adventurer
an explorer
a dreamer
a daredevil
a child who believed
that the great unknown
was a gift
not a curse
Curiosity
didn't kill the cat
it was the only thing
that protected him
that kept him alive
safe and sound
from the necrosis
of his own soul
