Metamorphosis
changing shape
shifting faces
absorbing new personalities
collecting trends
constantly evolving
dissolving into everything
fitting into patterns
until I camouflaged into every crowd
I let them crawl into my head
influence and project
deconstruct and rewrite
destroy and manipulate
every little facet
of my identity
so many times
I had forgotten
who I really was
or who I wanted to be
I kept changing
but they never did
I did everything
to make them love me
and ended up alone
hating myself
for what I had become
a thousand vapid illusions
messily mashed together
incoherent and dejected
The older I get
the more I begin to resemble
my child self
authentic, honest, shameless
purely me
untouched and unbothered
a complete reversal
into finally accepting
who I was all along
the one I was always meant to be
