to feel the weight of their claws without flinching 

Laugh in their faces instead of shrinking away 

scare them before they can scare you 

play along until their guard falters 

and they'll start to forget 

that they once had complete and total ownership 

over your damaged soul 

Pull them in close 

just for a moment 

so they can hear your heartbeat 

steady 

unafraid 

and then hurl them into the open light 

where their shadows cannot survive 

Let the world see what once haunted you 

let the truth scorch their skin

not the demons once possessing you
