Depression is a monochrome rainbow
seven shades of sorrow
stretched thin across the soul
drained of vibrance
washed out
like the aftermath of rainfall
each dark hue
another weight
pressing down on the heart
It hides behind a smile
stitched in porcelain
a fragile mask
worn for the comfort of others
while dark clouds gather in silence
underneath the surface
pregnant with storms
no one can see
A sun painted black
looming dreadfully overhead
casting obsidian tendrils of false light
radiating a cold burn
a sickly heat devoid of warmth
scorching painfully
without flame
Its shadows wrap around you
trapping you in darkness
an invisible cage of inky rays
stealing your breath
eating your happiness
bleaching the brightness
from every dream
every memory
every mirror
every emotion and human experience
It vaporizes your will to live
slowly
a gradual evaporation of meaning
until you forget
how the light ever felt
love and hope withers
like a tree stripped of its leaves
in the dead of winter
family and friends replaced
pushed away by a demonic presence
you never invited in
but cannot kick out the door
It can sap away everything
debilitating and crippling you
into a soulless husk
until you're left
with nothing
but the outline
of the person
you were supposed to be
lost in a lonely world
without color
