beneath the rubble of our progress 

and call it evolution?

I have so many things to say 

but every time I open my mouth 

the silence grows louder 

is that your answer?

do you stay quiet 

because you're ashamed 

of what we've done in your name? 

or are you afraid 

of what we've become?

we've stained every commandment 

and rewritten the rest in blood 

do you fear us all the same 

or have you given up 

on trying to forgive us?

have we grown so proud 

you think we're trying to replace you? 

or did you make us 

just vain enough to try? 

Dear God 

if you really hate us 

why'd you make us in your image 

and gift us your imperfections?

I don't care if you're real or myth 

distant or dead 

you're the one I strive to be

I don't know if you're really somewhere out there 

but even if you've abandoned us 

I still love you 

not because I believe you'll come back 

but because I hope that one day
