Suffering
clings to your heart like black tar
suffocating your arteries
squeezing the oxygen from your lungs
making you feel intoxicatingly sick
even when your eyes are pure
It is stitched into the fabric of your days
an uninvited guest that lingers in every shadow
creeping up behind every smile
twisting itself into every choice you make
No matter where you go
what city streets you walk
what warm beds you sleep in
it follows
patient and persistent
its weight pressing against your chest
its whispers threading through your thoughts
You can fight it
try to outrun it
drown it in distractions or pleasures
but it will find you
always
as suffering
is simply a natural part of life
So find someone
or something
worth enduring the gnawing ache for
a heart to protect
a dream to chase
a life to save
an animal to raise
a simple goal
a healthy escape
a purpose
that makes the endless ache bearable
Without purpose
suffering is an empty infinite
a never-ending nightmare
a hopeless dystopia
a hollow echo of life
gone to waste
trying to defeat
an invincible enemy
