Getting traumatized

is like being locked up

in a claustrophobic little box

nailed shut in a coffin

buried six feet underground

out of sight

out of mind

left to decay

one year at a time

flesh still warm

but spirit already cold

It doesn't kill you quickly

it suffocates slow

crushing you beneath its weight

like gravity pulling you under water

spilling into your broken chest cavity

it leaves you feeling

as if you're breathing through a straw

like the air itself resents you

and can't wait for you to die

while you struggle

to find a reason to keep living

You cry out

begging to be heard

to be seen

to get the help you need

but no one answers

because they couldn't possibly understand

how to save you from yourself

so your silent screams of despair

scratch the lid above

echoing back as silence

leaving you in the dark

to decay all alone

until you're just a lifeless vessel
