Every time I think about us
you burrow into my skull
needle to vinyl
scraping up the old familiar songs
that played on repeat
over the sounds of our broken hearts
shattering like glass
scattered all over the floor
as we slowly fell out of love
We danced
to a chaotic musical
of static and discord
melodies warped by the weight
of everything we left unsaid
your sweet voice
still lodged in the grooves of my mind
skips and stutters
a distorted vocal backing track
refusing to fade
as the rest of the instruments
go painfully quiet
You broke my heart
and I hated you for it
recollections of your soft singing
echoed like dying screams
played through worn-out speakers
on constant repeat
you were the sharp needle
jagged and rusted
dragging across the record
of a past life
reminding me of buried feelings
I tried so hard to forget
I can only try to be thankful
for the bittersweet memories
the way I remember it used to be
the comforting noise
the romantic rhythm
the chaos I once called love
but it's time to lift the arm
let the record still
one last serenade
one final note
before I leave the dust to settle
let the music fade out
to silence
