and the tides are close to swallowing you whole 

in the heat of a raging storm... 

They are the first ones 

to leave you to drown 

alone in the icy depths 

when your head falls 

below the cold waves 

And after they've made it back 

to sunny shores unscathed 

they won't even think of casting out 

a lifeboat 

to save you from what's to come
