I know the weight you carry
is mercilessly crushing down on you
I feel the fear
curling around your heart in serpentine constrictions
the temptation to surrender
and be consumed is maddening
I understand how badly
it makes you want to vanish without a trace
But the only clear exit out of this mess
is to go all the way through
the choking dust
the wreckage of ruins
through the miles of grit and corrosion
through the long corridor of disparaging turmoil
until you make it to the other side
not unscathed, but victorious over adversity
