***This one shot was inspired on the song New Rules by Dua Lipa***
Running the fastest I could, I finally got to the classroom. Fortunately, the door is still open. I straightened myself and took a deep breath fixing my hair which was looking messy by the little time I had this morning to make it better. I go to my chair while my best friend is looking at me with a curious face, probably wondering the reason I got late to the class, but the reason she was looking for enters in the classroom also running seconds after me.
Yuta greets the professor with a smile. That smile everyone falls for. The fact that he doesn't even glance at me as he passes by to go to his friends makes me sigh, even though his smell is all over my skin. He made sure to let it marked last night. I breathe deeply letting it intoxicate my nostrils just to remember that moment a little more. Just the thought of it makes me shiver, until I look at my side seeing my best friend staring at me in disapproval.
I know. I know I shouldn't, but it's always like this. Me, alone on a Saturday night in front of my TV, promising myself it wouldn't happen anymore. But then, he calls me. His drunk voice, begging for me to let him come over because he misses me so much. Because he needs me. It makes my brain fail and my heart work harder. He appears on my door minutes later, and I tell him that it's too late for him to come back in that state, but that nothing will happen between us. He nods chuckling, knowing that I'm always fooling myself and that I will end up under him again.
Our class is over. It passed so fast today. I wonder why. I take my backpack and glance over at him and his groups, just to roll my eyes again. He is flirting with another girl. He puts a strand of hair on the back of her ear. The gesture seems so delicate, but his eyes are sharp like a knife. Before you notice, he already has you on the palm of his hand. I gulp and look down. He knows I'm watching, so why does he do these things? Just to mess with me? Will you pretend you don't know me on university forever?
I sigh and leave that room. I know it's useless to stay there if I'm waiting for him. The truth is that I wanted him to be mine, and I wanted to be his. But this will never happen, because he is not the type of guy who gets into serious relationships. He is the one who stays for the night, and you don't see in the morning. The ones who are never sober for you. A player like many we find here, but extremely more captivating.
I throw my backpack on my bed, and it falls on the floor on the other side. I run my hands to my hair seeing my bed all messy and his rings on my bedside table. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of giving my all to him and just end up with pieces.
I stop for a few seconds looking at it. I curse his name and take a piece of paper on my table. Taking also a pen, I write down very fast and aggressively: "New Rules. 1) Don't pick up the phone. You know he only calls when he is drunk and alone. 2) Don't let him in. You have to kick him out again. 3) Don't be his friend. You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning." That's right. If he wants to pretend to not know me, I'm gonna pretend too. I nod firmly, but knowing that it's easier said than done.
The weekend comes. Again, I'm at home and I feel my phone vibrating. I sigh, already knowing who could be calling at 1am. Him. With all the strength inside me, I decline the call and turn the cellphone backwards. I feel it vibrating for a few more minutes. He probably called 4 times more, but I didn't pick it up. I wonder how he must be feeling right now since I never declined a call from him.
The night goes by and the sleepiness gets me. I go to bed and throw myself there, but then I hear some knocks on my door. I furrow my eyebrows a little afraid of that. I walk to the door, getting my ear closer to it.
-Hello? – I say, now noticing how strong the rain is outside.
-Y/n, it's me. Let me in. – His voice completely shakes my heart. It seems like I can see his lips moving and pronouncing my name, or his hair falling behind his neck.
-Yuta? It's 2 in the morning. You should be at your house. – I say trying to keep myself calm.
-Well, you didn't answer my calls nor my messages, so I had to come. Open the door. It's cold here. – He says and I bite my lips. I want so badly to open this door and warm him up in my arms.
-Sorry, Yuta. Go to your house. I want to go back to sleep now. I can call a cab if your battery died. – I say not even knowing what I'm saying anymore.
-Y/n, stop kidding. Come on! I miss you. I want to spend the night. Please open the door, baby. I need you, otherwise I can't sleep today. – Aaah the way he says that. It's so attractive. How his husky voice is so tempting.
-Not today, Yuta. I'm serious. You won't spend the night. – I say firmly and for some seconds he remains quiet. I even think he was already gone.
-Okay, fine. Just let me take my rings back then I'll go away. – He says and I sigh. He noticed my silence. – I'll just take it and leave. – He says, but I know too well what's he is planning.
-If it's just that, then wait. I'll take it for you. – I say, not wanting to break my second rule, and hear him groaning and whining outside.
I go to my room, take the rings, and come back, opening the door. I gulp seeing that boy leaning on his arm on my door. He looks at me and, oh my gosh... He stands straight and his hair is falling like cascades on his neck as drops of rain run in his face. His shirt, all wet, glues on his chest and abdomen like it was part of his skin, and veins go up his arm and biceps. My eyes come back to him, and he smirks looking down, reminding me of my tight and shot pajamas. I curse mentally because of that and push him away from the door by his chest. He gives two clumsy steps back while I close the door behind me to assure, he wouldn't get in.
-Here. Your rings. – I say, handing him the rings. He looks down at my hand, staring at it for a second. He is clearly drunk. He takes the rings at once and puts them on slowly one by one. – Now that you have them, good night. – I say putting my hand on the doorknob, but he clicks his tongue, pulling me by my wrist.
-Why did you not pick my calls, ugh? I called you so many times. – He says with that low voice. His face is some inches away from mine, and I look away.
-I knew what you wanted, so I didn't pick it up. – You say while he checks out your face.
-And why not? Did something happen? – He takes his hand to my cheek, caressing it, and the other goes to my waist, pulling me closer. I breathe deeply feeling his touch. I look at his eyes again and take his hand off my cheek.
-I don't wanna do this anymore. - I say and he arches an eyebrow, still with his hands on my waist.
-Uhm... - He seems thoughtful, running his eyes all over my face. Especially my lips. - It doesn't seem like you don't want this anymore. - He says in a low tone, almost whispering. - Have you caught feelings? - He asks, getting closer and kissing my cheek. His question made somehow angry.
-That would be a problem for you, right? Then you couldn't call me when you want, always drunk, come over, disappear in the morning and pretend you don't know me at college. - I say with a kind of sassy tone. He pulls away and scoffs, looking down.
-I didn't think it was a problem. Everybody knows that we are friends. Isn't that what friends do? Or do you want me to introduce you to my parents? - He asks sarcastically, getting close to me again. So, I was the only one who was thinking about him the entire time. I sigh, slowly pushing him away.
-No need. And you're right, that's what friends do. So, you can ask another "friend" to do that. Good night. - I say and get into my house.
-Y/nnn! Come oon! Let me in. We are still friends, right? - He asks. ''Rule 3) Don't be his friend. You know you're gonna wake up with him in the morning.''
-No... We're not. - I say and go to my room.
Outside, Yuta leans his head on your door. He turns around and sighs, looking at the sky. Strangely, his heart felt weird to hear you saying that.
