The trainers don the festival clothes from long ago as they reenter the Festival of Masks. "Man, it's so great to be back in Kitakami!" Ash exclaimed.
"I guess," Ult muttered, "But why do we gotta wears these weird clothes?"
"It's festive, Ult." Roy deadpanned.
"And that's another victory for our mysterious newcomer!" An announcer could be heard not too far from them, the trainers look over and spotted a small child dressed in green donning a mask winning another game.
"Woah, that kid's good." Dot remarked, "Maybe we should get snacks before playing any games."
The trainers head over to a candy-apple stall and purchase one for each trainer and Pokemon. Navi is about to bite down onto her apple, before the masked-child swipes it out of her hands. "Oh no you don't!" she quickly swiped the apple back, "Ha!"
The mask-child hangs their head before walking off, making Navi frown, "Wait!" she wasted no time in running after the kid.
"Huh, wonder what that kid's deal is." Dot remarked.
"Fancy seeing you guys here," Carmine approached alongside a boy who hid his face in his short-black hair before anyone could chase after Navi.
"Hey Carmine!" Liko greeted, "Good to see you again!"
"Feeling's mutual." Carmine responded, "Hey, where's that professor friend of yours?"
"Oh, you mean Friede?" Ash asked, "He didn't come with us, he's busy at Exceed."
"Dang it!" Carmine huffed, "I wanted to get back at him for beating me so much last year."
"Beating you at what?" Ult asked.
"The festival games, duh!" Carmine snapped.
"Oh, I wouldn't mind dueling ya there." Ult offered.
Carmine scoffed, "You serious? I'd rather battle the World Monarch!"
The boy beside Carmine shifted immediately after the words left her mouth, making her smirk. "Actually, I'll verse ya in some games." Carmine shoved the boy towards Ash, "And Kiki here can battle Ash."
"Kiki?" Roy asked.
"It's Kieran." he spoke quietly.
"Oh yeah, I remember you!" Ash recalled, "You watched Roy and me take on Drayton back at Blueberry Academy."
"Yeah, it was pretty cool." Kieran stared at the tile below him.
"Kiki here has been wanting to battle you since you beat Leon last year." Carmine remarked.
"Sis!" Kieran exclaimed as he blushed.
"It's cool Kieran." Ash reassured, "I'm always up for a battle."
"Really?" Kieran perked up.
"Then it's settled." Carmine said, "You two find a place to battle, I'll destroy the others in the festival games."
Ash and Kieran split off from the ground, finding an area nearby to battle. Kieran sends out his Poliwhirl while Ash sends out Dudunsparce. "Pikachu!" Pikachu whined.
"Sorry buddy, I wanted to give Dudunsparce a battle." Ash admitted sheepishly. "Alright, use Hyper Drill!"
Dudunsparce spins around rapidly towards Poliwhirl and blasts its opponent backward. "Um, use Brick Break."
Poliwhirl's hand glows in an orange light and slaps Dudunsparce in-between its segments for supereffective damage. "Use Mud Slap!"
Dudunsparce's tail glows in a brown-light and smacks Poliwhirl away, "Now use Yawn!" Dudunsparce yawns up a cloud that dirft towards Poliwhirl, making it sleepy.
