James stared at the last sunset here at Hogwarts before he would move on into the real world. He looked over at Lily's beautiful face and realized there was nowhere he would rather be.

Roads I used to run

Remus walked past the Whomping Willow and smiled slightly. He never thought that a place where he felt nothing but pain and inner torture would become a place where he had real friends.

These walls used to hold heroes

Sirius was standing in Dumbledore's office for the last time, watching the moving portraits chatter and wave. The number of times he had been in here for breaking the rules... But now he was in here because he had decided he was going to join the Order of the Phoenix.

Black and white, I'm gone

Peter's eyes dashed around the dark classroom. His new path was so different from the other marauders. His eyes dropped to his arm, where the fresh dark mark was writhing. He wondered if this was even the right idea.

I can show you all the places that we used to go

James pointed out to Lily the small clearing in the Forbidden Forest where they almost lost control of Moony. Lily's eyes were wide as James explained the story, which ended only when the sun rose again.

That ain't there no more

Remus walked past the portrait that held the passage way. He knew it had caved in sixth year, but he still moved the painting of the giraffe over.

Sirius and Marlene ran through the halls one last time, screaming about how Gryffindor will never be the same without the best class ever. Professor McGonagall just shook her head and smiled.

Peter jumped as the dark figure entered the room. He thought about how he was always in James and Sirius' shadows and scowled. This was his new future.

Lily laughed as her patronus charm danced around the grounds, chasing and running with James' stag.

James and Lily watched the sun set into darkness before realizing they had to be back in the castle. They snuck back in, and believed no one saw them. Dumbledore's eyes twinkled as he walked back to his office, sure that James and Lily's love would blossom even more over the next few years.

When you're young you just gotta know

First year James and Sirius pushed through the crowd to get to class. They only cared about getting there on time because McGonagall told them she'd give them another detention if they were late for the fifth time this month.

What it's all about

First year Remus and Lily were laughing as they studied in the library. Lily didn't know about his condition, she never would, so this was one moment that Remus could consider.

Then you're old with your head full of memories

James, Severus, and Lily all wished they could forget that day. Lily wished she had never lost her friend, Severus wished he had never pushed her away, and James wished he had never been such an idiot.

You could do without

Lily saw James apologizing to Sev for everything, but she watched as Severus glared at him and stalked away. She knew she had made the right choice to be with James, but she still missed her childhood friend.

It's enough to make you wonder

Marlene glanced at Sirius' face as he was deep in thought. She wondered what he was thinking about. It was probably the fact that by tomorrow night they would be in the real world, fighting for their lives.

Can anything last at all

Remus reached into his bag for the Marauders Map before realizing Filch confiscated it. They had made that map in their third year, and added on by the time the three others were animagi. He smiled sadly as remembered all the memories they had made.

This broken sound

Peter felt extremely uncomfortable as they worked on curses. His breath escaped him as his mentor held out a small rat and told him, "You know the spell." He closed hiseyes and whispered, "Avada Kedavra!"

But you may be the one place I'm sure about

Lily was dealing with so much right now, worrying about her parents, worrying about her sister and her new husband who hated magic, worrying about leaving Hogwarts. The only thing she didn't worry about was her love with James.

Lily walked over to James.

"I heard you wish Sev... I mean Snape."

She sighed.

"I love you and only you, you know that?"

James smiled at Lily.

"Don't worry, I won't curse him. I can't say what he'll do to me though."

Lily laughed weakly.

"By the way Evans, I've been meaning to ask you..."

James was pacing nervously the night before.

"Calm down mate, you're just about to marry the girl you've chased since fifth year. You're not fighting Death Eaters."

"You don't understand, Sirius."

"Evans!"

Sirius called to, Lily. James smiled widely.

"It's Potter, actually."

Lily smiled brightly as she held her son.

"Harry James Potter. He looks just like you, dear."

James smiled back.

"He has your eyes."

James hld Lily's hand with urgency.

"Voldemort is here. Take Harry and run. I love you so much, please remember that.

"James, it'll be okay!"

"Just run, Lily, run!"

The green light flashed through the house, destroying everything. All that survived was a small boy, who looked exactly like his parents. His parents were both watching over him now, but from a distance so far no one could reach them. Their hearts were still together even when their last days were over. Dreams of a better future lost with them.
