With supper dishes cleaned up and the evening wearing thin, October felt her stomach knot as August bid them good night and retired to his room. Alone, yet not quite so, Bam linked his hand with hers and inquired.
"Are you going to show me the rest of your house?"
October swallowed hard. This was the part she had been least looking forward to. The part where she either looked like a prude by showing him the guest room, or looked like a slut by inviting him into hers. She didn't want him to think either of her.
"Well, you've pretty much seen the kitchen." She started and led him through the hallway back to the room with the books he had seen before when they first arrived. "This is my library. I spend a lot of time in here when I'm not away on contract."
Bam's eyes scanned the titles of the books that lined each shelf. There was everything there from Stephen King to Jane Austen. He smirked to himself as he spotted 'Pride and Prejudice' and remembered the conversation he'd had with his mother.
"I've never been in a house with a library before." He stated. October leaned on the back of the couch that sat opposite from the fireplace.
"When I bought the house it was a formal dining room." She shrugged. "I'm not really a formal kinda gal so I converted it." Bam laughed. "What?" She turned as he chuckled. "You don't think so?" He slid his arms around her waist and pulled her into him.
"I think you are undefinable." She smiled right before he bent his head to slant his mouth over hers. She pulled away from him far sooner than he wanted her to. She looked at him wide-eyed while she bit her lip. Bam didn't think he had ever seen her look more sexy.
"Wanna give me a tour of upstairs?" He whispered. That's when he saw the uncertainty clouding her eyes and something in his mind clicked. He rested his forehead against hers and rubbed her cheek with his thumb.
"October." He said gently. "We are still getting to know each other. We can take things as slow or as fast as you want. I'll follow your lead. No pressure."
She pondered his words for a moment, wondering if he truly meant them. Deciding to trust him, she pressed he lips into a thin line and nodded. "I'll show you upstairs."
Bam retrieved his bag from the front entrance and followed her up the stairs. There was a small landing at the top with three closed doors. She pointed to the centre door first. "That's Auggie's room whenever he stays here." She waved towards the door at the right. "That's mine. And you're across the hall." She opened the door on the right. "Here."
The room was almost as big as his shack back in Browntown. In the middle of the room sat a large four poster bed with more pillows than one person would ever need. Underneath the window was a cherry wood dresser that matched the bed. Next to the door was a small nightstand table with a lamp spilling dim light across the carpeted floor. Two doors graced opposite ends of the side wall. October opened one to reveal a three piece ensuite.
"I put fresh towels in here for you this morning." She said, flipping the light switch on.
"Thank you." He murmured.
She moved back towards the door. "I'll leave you to get settled." She started to say something else but then changed her mind and pulled the door half closed. She stopped then and turned back to him again. "I'm really glad you're here." She left the room and closed the door behind her.
Bam smiled to himself as sat on the bed and rummaged through his bag for his toiletries. He undressed with a yawn and padded into the bathroom to turn on the shower. He actually groaned in appreciation when the hot water hit his bare chest. He had left Browntown early that morning. A boat ride, ferry ride and two airplanes later, the day had finally caught up with him.
Although the the day had not turned out how he had predicted, he was happy to have met August. He had brought out a side of October that Bam had never expected. The more he learned about her, the more intrigued he became.
He finished up in the shower quickly, eager to get to bed so the next day could start. He emerged from the steam-filled bathroom with a towel slung low on his hips. He was sitting on the bed looking in his bag for clean clothes when the door opened quietly. He looked up to see October leaning against the door frame clad in only a pair of shorts and a spaghetti strapped tank top.
"I just came to see if you have everything you need."
Bam flashed her a half grin. "The strawberry shampoo was a nice touch. Thanks for that."
She pushed away from the doorframe and crossed the room to where he sat. Placing one knee between his legs she put both hands on his shoulders and pushed him back onto the bed. Bam's gasp of surprise was pushed back down his throat by her lips crashing down on his.
Recovering quickly from the shock he opened his mouth to her, letting her lead like he said he would. She moved one arm up to balance her weight on her elbow at the side of his head. He could feel her nipples grazing his bare chest through the thin fabric of her shirt while her tongue explored his mouth eagerly. With her other hand she slicked her index finger slowly down his wet skin from his collarbone to his stomach and lower. She hooked the edge of his towel and twisted it in her hand. She tore her mouth away from his and breathed into his ear.
"In case you got the impression earlier that I'm not interested." She trailed several nipping kisses along his jaw and paused. "Nothing could be further from the truth." She planted an open mouthed kiss at the base of his throat and released the towel from her grasp.
Then, the weight of her body left his as suddenly as it had come. Bam lifted his head in time to watch her walk through the doorway.
"Sweet dreams." She whispered as she grinned at him saucily over her shoulder. The door latched with a soft click and he dropped his head back onto the bed.
"More like wet dreams." He muttered to himself wondering if the shower could get cold enough.
