Bam reached the bottom of the ladder and walked over to the edge of the work site. "Myra, what are you doing here?"
"Is that any way to greet a friend? I know your mother taught you better than that."
Bam scrubbed a hand down his face. "Sorry." He glanced at the foreman over his shoulder. "But I thought we agreed you wouldn't film me here."
Myra nodded. "We did. There are no cameras with me. I just want to talk."
Bam checked the watch on his wrist.
"I can give you ten minutes and then I gotta get back."
"Okay." Myra replied. "Let's take a walk." They fell in step together as they travelled down the sidewalk.
"The camera crew tells me that you have a girlfriend coming to visit next week."
"Yes." Bam smiled at the thought of having October back in his arms soon.
"Is she someone who has been on the show before?" Myra questioned.
"No." Bam's smile faded and he suddenly became uneasy. "Why?" He asked with trepidation.
"Because it's time you had a love interest on the show."
"A love interest?" He repeated her words. "What does that have to do with living in the bush?"
Myra waved her arm toward the street. "What does any of this have to do with living in the bush? Look around, Bam. You're not living in the bush anymore. You're back in the real world."
Bam interjected.  "Myra, I don't think she'll want to participate."
"Oh, what girl doesn't want to be part of a tv show these days? Everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame."
Bam shook his head. "She's not like that." He couldn't imagine October agreeing to any of this.
Myra's voice softened but remained disingenuous. "Just talk to her. I'll have release forms drawn up for when she gets here. I'll need her full legal name and we will run a quick background check to make sure there's no unsavoury stories that come cropping up from her past."
Bam stopped walking to openly gape at Myra. He opened his mouth to say something but shock prevented him from doing so. Myra gave him a matronly smile and patted his arm. "It's just business, Bam. You should be used to it by now." She raised an eyebrow. "Is there something about her that could hurt the show?"
"No." Bam shook his head. The faint memory of the camera clicking photos of October's bruised body flashed through his mind.
Myra grinned. "Good. Then we have nothing to worry about." He wondered who exactly 'we' was. It wasn't the first time he wondered for who's best interest Myra was really looking after.
Bam checked his watch and sighed. "I should get back to work."
Myra nodded. "Talk to her. I'll have paperwork ready for next week."
Without another word, Bam turned on his heel toward the job site. After a few steps, he stopped, turned back to Myra and asked, "What if she says no?"
Myra flashed him the same, serene smile she had a moment before. "You need a love interest on the show."  She repeated. Her phone rang and Bam turned his back to her and walked away before she had a chance to say anything else.
