"Stop!" October demanded after her high heeled shoes lost their footing, nearly pitching to the floor on her face. She planted her foot firmly on the lobby carpet and pulled out of Bam's grasp. "What is wrong with you?" She looked up at him incredulously.
"He had his hands all over you!" Bam said through gritted teeth.
October's frown deepened. "No, baby, he didn't. We were just-"
"I know what I saw. He was putting the moves on you." Anger had completely clouded over his reasoning. "And you just let him." October's widened in shock.
"Bam," she deliberately calmed her tone. "We were just talking. I only met him when I sat down. He seemed nice. He offered to buy me a drink but I-"
"I don't trust him!" He said vehemently. "He wanted to share more than just a drink with you."
October had had enough. She was tired and she was still upset from their earlier tiff. She put both her hands on Bam's chest and spoke in a low voice. "Maybe you didn't trust him. You don't have to, but you could trust me. You could have faith in me and believe that I'm not going to let myself be fooled. The only reason I was alone in the first place is because you lost patience in the room." Her eyes glittered dangerously at him. "You, of all people, should know me better than that by now." She shoved him away, nearly knocking him off balance. Bam regained his footing and reached for both her hands.
"Let's just go to dinner." He said, deliberately softening his tone.
October yanked her hands from his grasp. "Suddenly, I'm not very hungry. You can go have dinner by yourself." She turned on her heel and walked briskly to the elevator. The doors opened as soon as she stepped before them. She entered the elevator and didn't turn around to look at him before the doors closed.Bam seethed as he raked his hands through his hair. He bit back a long string of obscenities as he contemplated whether he should follow October or leave her alone. After several deep, calming breaths, his rage subsided marginally allowing logic to seep through his anger. Deciding to leave October time to cool off, as well as himself, he turned back towards the lounge. He sat down at the bar and waited for the bartender to come take his order. He ordered a double of the same whiskey he had been drinking while he played pool. The bartender returned with Bam's drink. Bam reached for his wallet and the bartender waved him off. "It's already taken care of." Bam raised an eyebrow in question. The bartender lifted his chin in the direction of another man sitting at the end of the counter and then returned to wiping glasses. Bam's eyes travelled down the bar to recognize the guy who had just laid hands on his wife.
His anger resurfaced. Paul stood up and made his way around the bar to where Bam was sitting. Bam made a show of ignoring him although he was keenly aware of his presence. Paul cleared his throat and spoke. "You know, I didn't stand a chance with her." Even though Bam didn't look up from his drink, Paul sat down on the stool next to him. "She wouldn't even let me pay for her drink. She just sat here for the past twenty minutes telling me how in love with you she is."
Bam quirked an unbelieving eyebrow and turned to look at Paul. He continued. "I wasn't trying to put the moves on her. She shut me down before I said hello. She's not interested in anyone but you."
Bam scrubbed a hand through his beard. He knew Paul spoke the truth. Bam knocked back the rest of his drink and clinked the glass on the counter. He stood up abruptly and muttered. "Thanks for the drink."~*~
In the elevator, October angrily swiped her tears away. She wasn't usually the type to cry but her hormones were still balancing out since Isabella's birth. She had hung so many expectations for a wonderful, romantic evening with Bam and now she had ruined it by stomping off like a petulant child. She angrily rubbed the tears from her eyes, smearing the makeup she had so carefully applied not an hour ago.
She stripped off her pretty dress as soon as she was inside their room and threw it on the floor. Dinner may be ruined but she wasn't going to let the huge jetted tub go unused, even if she had to use it alone while she planned otherwise.~*~
The first thing Bam saw when he let himself into the room was October's lace dress scrunched up carelessly on the floor. He heard the water running behind the closed door of the bathroom. He knocked but was ignored. He tried the knob but it was locked. He picked up the dress and spread it across the bed. The only thing he had left to do was wait.

October stayed in the tub until the water and her temper had cooled considerably. Her mood had improved marginally. She was still upset but at least now she was rational. She emerged from the steamy bathroom wrapped in a fluffy robe. She stopped short when she saw a rolling tray set with dinner service for two. Lit candles adorned every flat surface possible. Bam sat in the chair by the window - asleep. The last of October's anger dissipated. She walked over to where he sat and laid a gentle hand on his shoulder and whispered his name.
Bam sat up straight with a start. He looked around for a bewildered moment until his eyes fell on October. "Baby," he whispered roughly. He reached for her and pulled her body down to his lap. He buried his face in to the side of her neck and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry."
October brought her hands up to his chest and looked at his face. His eyes were so full of remorse she almost had to look away. "Do you really think I would want someone other than you?" She asked. Bam shook his head but remained silent. "Do you really not trust me?" Bam shook his head again with no words. "Then what is it? Tell me what happened back there because I'm trying to understand."
Bam curled his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to his body. He rested his forehead on hers and closed his eyes. When he finally did speak, his words were tinged with pain. "The last time another man put his hands on you, I almost lost you. Do you know what that would do to me? I am nothing without you by my side."
October's breath hitched. She hadn't thought of that. She had tried to not think of that night with Jaime at all. It never occurred to her just how much Bam had been affected by the ordeal as well. He continued. "You're just so smart and perfect and so damn beautiful, I wonder when you are going to realize that you're too good for me. I would die if anything happened to you. Do you know that?" She cradled Bam's head between her hands and trailed kisses all across his face. "Baby, I'm not going anywhere. I'm right here with you where I belong."
