The first thing October learned about a Brown Family Christmas was that it was very busy! Everyone laughing, shouting, opening presents, saying thank you, hugging. It was almost chaotic.

Later, when the noise had died down, Bam and October sat in the corner, cuddled together, talking to each other in hushed voices. Rainy and Birdie were at the kitchen table listening to all the things August promised to show Birdie when she came to visit him in the city. Matt was snoring softly as he napped on the floor among the bits of torn paper and ribbon. Gabe and Bear were engaged in a lively game of poker which Noah was trying to referee before it got physical. Ami and Billy stood at the top of the stairs, arm in arm, looking over the railing at their family with smiles of love and pride on their faces.

"By the looks of things, we might have a grand baby as early as next Christmas." Billy murmured to his wife. Ami's gaze fell upon Bam and October and she sighed loudly

"I think Bam has more to learn about love before he's ready for a woman as strong as she is. You and I both know that love must be tested before it's deemed true. Our love has been tested as theirs must be too."

Billy wrinkled his forehead at her. "You're speaking in riddles again. I don't pretend to understand. I just know you are probably right." He kissed her cheek gently.

Ami nodded. "I just hope they can weather the storm."

After dinner was cleaned up, October slipped outside to escape the noise for a moment. Sunset had been around three-thirty and the bright moon was shining through the tree tops making the snow glisten on the branches. After some time of quiet reflection, October heard heavy footsteps coming towards where she sat in a clearing looking over the beach.

"I thought I'd find you here." Bam said putting a hand on her shoulder. She put her hand over his and smiled.

"I just needed a little quiet for a minute." She looked towards the beach and sighed. "I have to leave tomorrow."

He sat down behind her and circled his arms around her waist pulling her flush with his body. "Don't think about it. We still have the rest of today."

"And tonight." She added. She felt him smile against her shoulder. She twisted in his arms so she faced him. She laid her hand over his heart.

"I don't want to leave without telling you," she paused and brought her eyes up to meet his. "I love you." She whispered.

Bam moved one hand up to cup the back of her neck. He pulled her towards him until their foreheads touched. His eyes closed as he revelled in this new development.

"Say it again." He whispered.

"Bam, I love you." October linked her arms around his neck and brought her lips to meet his.

"Again." He breathed against her mouth.

"BamBam Brown, I love you."

"I love you, October Sunrise Hunt." He replied. "Damn, Woman. What you do to me."

They made love that night, frantic and desperate. Each of them searching for tangible evidence of the others love to keep with them. Afterwards, as they lay in each other's arms while their pulses slowed, the I love you's flowed freely, both of them needing the other to understand the clenching of their hearts at their imminent parting.
