When Bam entered the shack he found October laying in bed nursing Isabella and looking positively miserable.
"I brought tea." He stated and set the tea service on top of the dresser. He poured her a cup and left it on the night stand by the bed. October handed Isabella over to Bam. She let out a cry of protest at not being allowed to finish her breakfast. Bam laughed at her impatience and shushed her while he rocked her in his arms. October moved slowly over to the edge of the bed and gratefully took a sip of the hot tea. "Thank you, baby. I thought the second pregnancy was supposed to be easier." She muttered and wrapped her hands around the steaming mug. "I think I feel worse now than I did in my first trimester with Isabella." She closed her eyes and leaned back against the headboard.
"Must be my demon spawn." Bam quipped.
October flashed a smile that was more like a grimace. "Yes, it doesn't seem fair that your demon spawn is wreaking havoc on my body." October muttered.
Bam sat down on the bed beside her and pulled her close to his side with his free arm. "Are we okay?" He asked sincerely.
October opened her eyes and brought her hand up to caress his beard. "Yeah, Baby, we're just fine."
"I know this isn't the way you wanted it to be." When Bam returned from work the night before, they had spent hours holding each other and talking things through. No, it wasn't the way either of them wanted it to be. October would have preferred that Isabella be at least a year old before getting pregnant again. Bam would have liked to have a house built on land that he owned before expanding their family. But in the long run, those things didn't matter. As long as they were together, they could jump over the rest of the hurdles as a team.
"I can face anything as long as you're with me." She said softly. "And I'd kiss you right now if I wasn't worried I'm going to throw up." She added.
Bam chuckled, stood up again and moved Isabella to over his shoulder. She cooed and tightened her little fist in Bam's hair, giving it a swift yank and making a happy squawk. "Ouch!" Bam yelped in surprise. "Princess has a good grip." He exclaimed while gently prying her tiny fingers open.
October kept her eyes closed yet gave a little giggle. "That's it baby girl, give Daddy some payback for Momma."

October wasn't well enough to accompany Bam and his brothers on any shipping jobs that week. Nor was she feeling any better the week after. She opted instead to stay in Browntown where she could spend time with Isabella, visit with Amber and help Rainy with her school work. Rainy was becoming quite proficient with her camera. Of course, baby Isabella was her favourite subject to photograph and Isabella would smile like a movie star every time the camera flashed.
Having so much time together with Amber only deepened their friendship.
It was difficult for Amber to be happy for October's second pregnancy when the good news was in such contrast to her own, but she was genuinely happy for her friend. And those times she couldn't, she faked it well or spent time alone.
A letter had arrived from Birdie amidst all the busy-ness. She assured everyone that she was well and still enjoying her job very much. Her contract had been extended for another term so she would not be returning to Browntown for filming of the next season. No one had the heart to write her back and tell her that after her contract was up, there might not be a Browntown for her to return to.

Two full weeks of working non-stop had Bam exhausted but feeling very accomplished. They had a three day weekend ahead of them before the next job commenced. He was looking forward to spending some time with his wife and baby. He had missed October being on the boat with him. (Although Gabe still wouldn't sit at the table.) He hated leaving her so early in the mornings. He hated, more, the nights that he couldn't return to her and had to sleep on the boat with three snoring brothers.
His heart beat sped up as he rounded the bend and Browntown came into view. A smile already on his face for he knew the welcoming party would be waiting for them. Once he focused on the distance though, the beach was unusually empty.
Matt and Bear let out their wolf calls as they dropped anchor in the bay and started to load their gear into the skiff.
Moments later, Amber came running out from the tree line at full speed. Something about her demeanour gave Matt pause and he voiced his concern to his brothers. "Something's wrong." He said and silently urged Gabe to pilot the skiff faster. Matt jumped out of the skiff before they even reached shore. He sloshed through knee deep water to get to Amber as quickly as possible. He gripped his hands around her waist as she took some deep breaths. "What's wrong?" He asked, willing her to answer before Bam shook the words out of her. "Is someone hurt?"
Still catching her breath, Amber shook her head. "No one is hurt." she panted. "Where is October?" Bam asked gruffly, already losing patience.
"She's in the main cabin. Isabella is with her." She replied, answering his next question before he asked it.
"What about Rainy?" Bam nearly shouted.
Amber nodded and took another deep breath. "October wouldn't leave Rainy alone with them."
"Alone with who?" Matt and Bam asked in unison.
"Your parents." She blurted. "They're here. In Browntown."
