"Why don't they call?" August exclaimed as he paced back and forth in October's library. October had instructed Rainy to call August while Bam helped her back into the truck and hurried her to the hospital. Coincidentally, the phone rang at August's house in Banff just as Birdie arrived home for the weekend. Robert had been August's next call and Robert sped out to October's place to sit with Rainy until the other two arrived.
"Babe, please sit down. You're wearing a hole in the carpet." Robert playfully chided his nervous boyfriend. Birdie sat on the couch humming an unfamiliar tune and reading a magazine while Rainy dozed on her shoulder.
"If I don't hear from them by six a.m. I'm driving down to the hospital myself."
Robert laughed and put his hands on August's shoulders, steering him back to sit in a chair. "You'll do no such thing. Why don't you try to get some sleep?"
"Ha! Sleep? Who could sleep at a time like this?" August exclaimed, fidgeting restlessly in the chair. Robert smiled gently.
"Fine, then go into the kitchen and cook something. If all goes well, the hospital won't keep them long and they will be hungry when they get home. Well, at least Bam will be."
"What do you mean if all goes well? Do you think something's wrong?" August stood abruptly.
Robert shook his head. "Let's get some coffee." He led August by the hand out of the library and into the kitchen.
Rainy stirred and murmured sleepily. "Any news?"
Birdie patted her knee. "None yet. Go back to sleep."
Rainy laid back down on Birdie's shoulder and closed her eyes. "Glad you're here."
Birdie smiled. "Yeah, me too."~*~
Isabella Louise Brown entered the world with a loud wail just after seven in the morning of February the fourth.
Her father's heart was immediately taken by her - a full grown man wrapped around her tiny baby finger.~*~
October watched through half opened eyes from her hospital bed while Bam gently rocked the tiny swaddled bundle in his arms and walked around the room. October shifted in the bed and pressed the button to bring her to a sitting position. Bam tore his eyes away from his baby daughter long enough to flash a beaming smile at her. "Hey, how are you feeling?" He asked in a hushed tone. October arranged the blankets around her legs and winced. "Sore, but good. How long was I asleep?" She patted the bed beside her for him to sit. "Almost two hours. This little one is going to be hungry soon." He sat on the edge of the bed and placed a sleeping Isabella into October's waiting arms. October cooed as the babe stretched and awoke to blink up at her. "She has your eyes." She whispered to Bam. She pushed a tiny fist into her mouth to suck on a bit before realizing that there was nothing coming out of it. She wrinkled her little face into a frown and let out a sharp cry. October giggled. "And your temper!" Bam scoffed adorably but said nothing.
October glanced at the door of her room before unsnapping her hospital gown at her shoulder and positioning baby in place for her to latch. Once she did, October pulled up the small, yellow blanket to cover herself up. Bam stopped her before she was able to hide her nakedness. "Don't cover her up." He gently pleaded. When October turned her head to look at him in question, he ran his thumb along her jaw and kissed her softly. "I want to to watch her."
As Isabella greedily suckled at October's breast, she was oblivious to the two people who stared down at her with adoration. Bam moved closer onto the bed so he could embrace October with one arm while keeping the other free to caress his callused finger down the side of Isabella's cheek. "She's so tiny." Bam whispered without taking his eyes away from her cherubic face. "She's perfect." October said.
"Just like her mother." Bam replied. His hand came up to caress October's face again. "Thank you." He whispered and covered her mouth with his. October broke the kiss off quickly, feeling a little self-conscious at her current state of undress and the wide open door. Her eyes flashed up to his. "I want to go home." She told him simply. He nodded and kissed her lips again.
"I will take you home as soon as the doctor says it's okay." Bam murmured against her temple. October nodded and both their gazes returned to their daughter held in October's arms. Soon, Isabella's eyes grew heavy and she drifted off to sleep snuggled against the two people who loved her more than anything in the world.~*~
My Dear lovelies,
I know this is short but I am very busy this week with work and houseguests. I would prefer to post a longer chapter but will not get to it until much later this week and I didn't want to leave you all hanging. (That would be very cruel of me!) Please comment and tell me what you think!
