Bam walked into the coffee shop about forty minutes later. His lips were pressed into a thin line and his eyes were hard. His forehead was furrowed into a frown. October stood up as soon as she saw him. Without a word, he grasped her firmly but gently around the waist and steered her out of the shop to his waiting truck.
By the time they arrived back at his apartment, October's stomach was in knots. Bam hadn't uttered a word the entire way home. She didn't press him. She knew he would talk when he was ready.
She knew he was angry about something. She had heard about Bam's temper before but she had never witnessed it first hand. Although she knew he was mad, she was pretty sure he wasn't at her. He had kept her hand grasped tightly in his since they had left Starbucks.
He led her up the stairs to his apartment and opened the door with force. Matt, Gabe and Noah were sitting in the living room quietly talking among themselves. They stopped all conversation abruptly when Bam entered the room.
"Leave." Bam growled at them through clenched teeth.
All three brothers quietly stood, giving Bam a wide berth as they left the room. Noah stopped briefly in front of October on his way out the door. He brought a hand up to squeeze her shoulder. "I'm sorry." He whispered. Bam whirled around and his eyes sparked at Noah. "Don't touch her." He spat. His hands curled into fists at his sides. Noah snatched his hand away as if he'd been burned. He followed his brothers into the corridor. The door latched closed behind them.
October turned her pleading eyes toward Bam. "You're scaring me." She said softly.
Bam took her in his arms and led her over to the couch where they sat down facing each other. "I'm scared too."
October brought her hand up to rub his beard. "Of what?"
"Of what you're going to do when I say what I have to tell you."
October braced herself for bad news and silently promised herself that no matter what, she would stand by Bam through it all, but nothing could have been further away from what she expected than what he said next.
"I've got a new girlfriend."
