For the third morning in a row, Bam was up and gone before October even opened her eyes. She was marginally thankful that Bam wasn't there to see her in her current state. She knew the dilemma with the contracts and the land and Rainy was laying heavily on his mind and his heart. October grimaced to know that she was about to add to the pressure he was under. She needed to tell him in as gentle a manner as possible and be prepared to deal with his temper.
It didn't take long for her to wash and dress herself, and then Isabella. She stopped in the main cabin for a cup of tea and a slice of dry toast.
"Are the guys working on The Integrity today?" She asked Amber between the noise of Rainy blowing raspberries on Isabella's tummy and Isabella's tiny laughter.
Amber nodded. "Just Bam and Matt. Bear and Gabe went into town to pick up supplies."
October set her cup down with force and steeled her resolve. "Can you watch Isabella for a little bit? I have to talk to my husband."
Amber took a seat beside October. "Of course we can. Rainy loves to spend time with her." She paused for a moment. "So you're going to tell him?"
"You know?" October turned to face the other woman.
"It's kind of obvious. Well, to me anyway. I know the signs without even looking for them. I search for them in myself everyday." Amber replied softly.
October covered both Amber's hands with hers on the table. "Amber, I'm so sorry."
The two women sat in silence at the table for a moment. Then Amber flashed a brittle smile at October. "That's not for us to dwell on today. You need to go talk to Bam."
October nodded solemnly. She drained her teacup and pulled her jacket over her shoulders. "Do you think anyone else knows?"
Amber shook her head. October stood up from the table. "Do you think Bam knows?"
Amber replied without looking up. "No, I think you're going to blindside him."
October winced. "I think so too."

The spring sun had dried the morning dew off the leaves that lined the well-worn path towards the beach. October moved swiftly along the forest floor and out into the clearing. As she neared the waterline, she spied Bam loading tools into the skiff. He had his back turned to her so she called to him. He faced her direction and used his hand to shield his eyes from the sun. His smile shone with love as he watched her close the distance between them. He gathered her in his arms and hugged her tight as he brushed his lips across her forehead. "To what do I owe this pleasure?" He grinned. His face fell when he saw the seriousness in October's expression.
"I have something to tell you." She stated flatly. Bam's expression turned serious. "What's wrong?" He asked immediately.
October wavered for a moment. "I'm pregnant!" She blurted and then burst into tears.
