All the way down the stairs of the apartment building she thought he might come chasing after her. Then at the airport she glanced behind her several times in the hopes that Bam was coming to get her back, to beg her to stay, to make her understand and explain exactly what was going on. She held onto that hope all the way up until the airplane wheels left the tarmac. Only then did it sink in that he wasn't coming after her. At that point some other girls might let the tears fall but not her. October wasn't mad. No. October wasn't angry. No. October was furious.
She knew Bam loved her. She was sure of it. There was no way he could have faked everything. She knew him too well. She knew he wouldn't make the decision that he did unless there were extenuating circumstances.
Extenuating circumstances that he chose not to tell her about. And that's what hurt her the most - the fact that he couldn't trust her enough to tell her the truth. She'd asked him before if he trusted her. He'd said yes. He lied.
And now she was too damn angry to even pick up the phone when he called her every night at the same time. Ten after six, she could have set her clock to it. It was the first thing he did as soon as he got home from work. As the weeks passed, he realized that she wasn't going to pick up, but he kept doing it just the same, hoping she would get the message that he wasn't giving up.
