With August gone to the city and October finishing up work, Bam was left to his own devices. After wandering around the house a few times, he settled himself onto the couch in the library to peruse October's book collection.
It was several hours later when October found him poring over one of her favourite volumes of poetry.
"Emily Dickinson." she observed. "She was amazing, wasn't she?"
Bam looked up from the page and nodded in agreement. October continued. "If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain."
She knelt down on the couch beside him so her knees touched his thigh.
"If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one's pain." She ran her hand up Bam's arm until she reached the piece of leather that was holding his hair back. She pulled it away and his hair fell down over his shoulder in a wave. "Or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain."(1)
She fisted her hand in his curls and brought her mouth down on his. Bam let her lead, again, like he said he would but not for long. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her down with her legs across his lap. His lips found her eyes then her cheeks and travelled down her jawline to her throat. Both of October's hands were now tangled in his mass of curls as she welcomed every sensation of his rough beard brushing her tender skin. When she arched her back to press her breasts into his chest, she felt his teeth nipping at the flesh between her neck and shoulder. She whispered his name and moved her hands down his back pulling him nearer.
Bam's tongue slid up to her ear. "Damn girl, I want you." He growled from deep within his chest.
She turned her head to the side to look directly into his eyes. "Then touch me, Bam." She whispered boldly.
He turned his body to align with hers and pushed her gently back against the cushions, letting his tongue explore her mouth. October worked the front of Bam's button-up open and pushed it down to reveal his well-defined biceps. She wrapped her warm hands around his shoulders and brought her hot, wet tongue to the base of his throat. She tugged his shirt tail out of his jeans and reached beneath the hem. When her fingers found his stomach underneath, Bam smiled against her kiss and gasped sharply. He tore his mouth away long enough for her to pull his tank top over his head and fling it to the floor.
Again, following her lead, Bam's hands gripped her hips and slid her tshirt up the side of her rib cage.
He smiled when he heard her gasp almost identical to the one he had just made. Then frowned when she whispered, "Stop." She dropped her head against the arm of the couch and Bam pressed his forehead into the crook of her neck. He was just about to protest when he heard the sound of tires crunching on the gravel driveway outside.
"I think I'm beginning to believe in the Brown Family Luck." She groaned, pulling her body away from his and scooping his tank top off the floor to toss his way.
His eyes sparkled at her as he donned the shirt and stuffed the hem back into the waistband of his jeans. "Oh, it's real." He said with a persistent nod. "Feeling it a whole lot, right now." He added as October giggled.
August came through the front door a few minutes later. He sat on the bottom stair to untie his shoes while humming a tune to himself. "How was your lunch date?" October asked. "Oh, hi." He replied as he stood up and stepped further into the library. "I didn't see you there when I-" his eyes narrowed. He looked at October sitting on the end of the couch. She was pretending to read a book all the while stealing sidelong glances at Bam, looking deliciously dishevelled with his hair down and wild and his tattoos out. He swung his gaze from Bam back over to October, noticing that she looked equally as rumpled and out of breath.
"Geez, I hope I wasn't interrupting anything." He said loudly with a feigned innocence.
With only a hint of a satisfied smirk turning up the corners of her mouth, October left the couch and walked past August into the kitchen, discreetly flipping him off as she did so.
August took two more steps into the library and bent to swipe Bam's button-up off the floor. "Yours?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. "Dude, that's my sister." He dead-panned.
Bam's lips twitched unapologetically as he reached for his shirt. "I'm going to sharpen my knives." August said before turning on his heel and leaving the room. He could hear Bam's chuckle all the way out to the hallway.
He found October standing at the kitchen sink looking out to the mountains at the skyline. "Auggie, you have real crap timing." She mused as she filled her water glass.
August laughed. "Sorry, not sorry." He watched her for a moment. "You have a lust bite on your neck." He stated matter-of-factly. Her hand flew to her neck, still wet from Bam's mouth. She groaned in embarrassment. "Tell me how your date was." She asked, effectively changing the subject. "Am I going to meet this mystery person tonight?"
August nodded and smiled. "Yes, and we have plans for afterwards as well, so I won't be back tonight either."
"I thought you were headed back home tomorrow morning?"
"I am. So I won't be back after the art show at all." August grinned. "You and Bam will have the entire house all to yourself and you can bang on every horizontal surface in here."
"Auggie!" October squealed.
"Or every vertical surface, if that's your thing. Just wait till I leave and not in the kitchen, please. I cook in here."
October smacked him on the arm playfully. "Just be safe, ok? If you need condoms, there's some in my room."
Octobers hands flew to her cheeks. "Oh my god, Auggie, shut up! I am not having this conversation with you."
August glanced at the clock. "Don't you have to get ready?"
October sighed. "Yes. I have to shower and wrestle with my hair and cram myself into my dress." She set her glass down and sighed. "I'd better get started."
