The bright sun of the early afternoon shone down on the young family as they exited the building and spilled out onto the sidewalk in front. Rainy, now walking, but clinging to Bam for support - both physical and emotional - sniffled and wiped her eyes. "What do we do now?" She asked tearfully.
Bear grinned. "Well, first of all, I'm going to thank October for saving the day." He stepped up to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek and a quick hug.  "You are my new hero." He announced loudly. "I don't know where we would be if it wasn't for what you just did in that meeting."
"I do." Gabe replied, also giving October a grateful hug. "We'd be homeless."
Noah took his turn at expressing his gratitude by bowing gallantly before her and kissing her hand.
"Toby," Matt started softly. "Amber and I..." He trailed off. The thought of being able to start their family in Browntown had gotten him choked up. Instead of trying to talk, he simply smiled and pulled October into a warm embrace. "Thank you." He whispered quietly and kissed her cheek.
"Okay, okay." Bam grumbled. "Get your lips off my woman."
October turned her attention toward Bam and, more importantly, Rainy. "Are you all right, sweetheart?" She asked as she brushed a concerned hand over the girl's puffy and swollen cheek. Rainy nodded, too tearful to find her voice just yet. Bam spoke sombrely as he put his thumb under Rainy's chin and examined her cheek. "I'm pretty sure nothing is broken. She needs some ice and Advil. She's going to feel pretty sore for a week but I don't think there's any need to go to the hospital."
"You absolutely should take her to the clinic." A new voice spoke up from behind their group.
"Mr. Harrington!" October exclaimed in surprise. "I'm so sorry about what happened in there. I'm sorry you had to be a part of it."
John held up a hand to her and smiled gently. "Quite all right. I've been practicing law in this area for some time. Billy Brown's reputation precedes him. I was almost expecting it." He gestured towards Rainy. "You should take her to the hospital right away." He continued. Before anyone could question him, he explained. "You need official documentation of her injuries and X-rays, if necessary. Then you need to go to the police detachment and file a formal complaint. Get a restraining order within the next three days and follow up with CPS."
Seeing the logic in his advice, several heads nodded in agreement.
"Thank you, Mr. Harrington."
"You're welcome, Ms. Hunt-Brown. If you need me again, you know where to find me. And congratulations on the outcome of the meeting today. I hope you and your family will be very happy on your new land." He shook October's hand, then Bam's and left them.
"You heard the man." Bam murmured to Matt. "You and Amber take Rainy to the clinic. October and I will go pick up Isabella and meet you at the boat."
"No!" Rainy gave a hoarse cry. She grasped onto Bam's coat sleeve. "Will you come with me?" She turned her pleading eyes up to him. He glanced over to October, who nodded slightly, and then back down to his little sister. "Of course I will."
"We both will." October added.
"Amber and I will go pick up Isabella from the daycare." Matt volunteered to which Amber immediately disagreed.
"No, you're going to the clinic too." She said with a soft authority. Bam hid a grin as Matt started to protest. "He landed a pretty good punch on you, too, baby. You should get it checked out." Matt relented when he saw the concern in his fiancée's expression.
"Gabriel and I will retrieve the little princess and meet you back at the boat." Noah volunteered. Bear agreed to go prepare the boat for the return trip and wait for the rest of the group. What he really wanted was some privacy so he could phone Rosanna and fill her in on the developments of their meeting. After giving a few last minute instructions to her brothers-in-law about Isabella, October and Bam, with Rainy clinging to his side, set off in the direction of the clinic with Amber and Matt.

Several hours later, they were just finishing up at the police station when October and Bam found themselves in the elevator. They hadn't had a moment alone since that morning when they had woken up together. So much had happened since then. The day had been an emotional roller coaster. There had been so many highs and lows that they were both feeling exhausted. As soon as the doors closed, Bam moved closer to October and slid his arms around her waist. October circled her hands behind his neck and pressed her body against the length of his. She ran one palm down his beard and cupped his cheek. "Are you okay?" She questioned softly. The love and concern reflected in her eyes made him weak at the knees. He leaned into her touch and closed his eyes. He nodded his head and sighed, drawing upon her warmth and strength. "You were amazing today." When his eyes opened again, they were darkened to almost black. His desire for her was evident. October gasped as Bam backed her up against the back wall of the elevator and brought his his mouth so close to hers that he brushed her lips when he spoke. "Damn Woman. When I get you home, I'm going to make love to you until every bear on the island can hear you scream my name."
October melted into him. "That would be my pleasure, Mr. Brown." She purred and closed the space between them.
The elevator door opened and a nurse pushed an empty wheelchair inside the car. October's cheeks immediately coloured and she stepped away from Bam. He grinned wolfishly as he raked his eyes down her body. "I don't believe I've seen you wear those before." He said quietly. His voice was a near growl. "Are those new shoes?"
"Yes." October flashed a saucy smirk at his reflection on the back of the elevator door. "Indeed they are, Mr. Brown. So nice of you to notice."
